Toudou Aoba (東道 青波) is a Buddhist Priest, whom is the previous owner of the Fourth Institute and a Sponsor of the Yotsuba. Kokonoe Yakumo calls him, "His Excellency, Priest Aoba". [1]
Appearance and Personality[]
Toudou has big round eyes with thick gray eyebrows. He doesn't have any type of beautiful Bikomu features. His cloudy left eye gives others who look at him a strange feeling of pressure. [1]
Events[]
Shiba Tatsuya and Shiba Miyuki saw Toudou at Kyuuchou Temple when they went to visit Yakumo, in order to give Yakumo a New Year's Greeting. He happened to be Yakumo's previous and unannounced guest who seemed to be an old man talking to Yakumo. [2]
Tatsuya's second encounter with Aoba occurs when Maya arranges a meeting for him in order to get approval for his E.S.C.A.P.E.S Plan. Aoba agrees to his plan and will support him as long as Tatsuya will become a deterrent for Japan in the future. It is mentioned that Aoba and Yakumo have known each other for a very long time.[3]
Requests Kitayama Ushio to assist Tatsuya with the ESCAPES Plan in partnering with Japan's Business Sector. Ushio accepts the request immediately. [3]
After Igor Andreevich Bezobrazov's failed Tuman Bomba attack on First High School to kill Tatsuya, Aoba had the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry speak out and condemn the attack made by the New Soviet Union Apostle. The attack places serious doubts on the peaceful intentions of Project Dione as Igor is its co-sponsor. [4]
Yotsuba Maya mentions that Aoba is satisfied with Tatsuya's indirect involvement as a deterrent on repelling the New Soviet Union Invasion. Despite the mention of Tatsuya's name as a co-developer of Ocean Blast from the press conference after, that Tatsuya views as a misjudgment on his part. [5]
Yakumo reveals to Tatsuya that Aoba is a member of an organization that wants the parasites expelled from Japan [6]
Permits Tatsuya to leave the 101 Independent Magic-Equipped Battalion and that Kudou Minoru is not allowed to return to Japan. He then provides an approved passport for official travel to Tatsuya and intends to dispatch Tatsuya to the USNA as a Magic Engineer in the future. [7]
Adopts Lina but she still goes by the name Angelina Kudou Shields and cannot leave the USNA Military. [8]
Aoba is revealed to be one of the four elders of the Senate and this is revealed to Tatsuya, Miyuki, Kuroba Ayako and Kuroba Fumiya after graduating from their respective high schools by Hayama Tadanori. Tatsuya suggests to reach out to Aoba since their plan to capture Kurenai Anzu now involves another elder of the Senate Kashiwa Kazutaka. Tatsuya offers to accompany Lina and Miyuki on their visit to Aoba but was rejected since he has been the center of attention and is under contstant surveillance since the Miyaki Island Incident. [9]
Abilities[]
Aoba comes from a very old line of magicians. It can be said that he is from the oldest family of spiritual medium users, and his eye can see into the soul of another. However, Aoba didn’t choose to be a usual practitioner, and therefore can’t fully control this power.[3]
Aoba is a mastermind behind the political and financial world of Japan, though he is referred to as a monster. [10] He is also not only just a sponsor for the Yotsuba Family. Even though Aoba is younger than Kudou Retsu, Retsu can't refuse a request made by him. [1]
He has a wide interlinked deep information network, by which he gathers 'unobtainable' highly confidential information not only in Japan but all around the world. In fact, he was aware of undercover operation of USNA's Stars No:2 Canopus for pursuit of Gu Jie and the threat (telepathic ability) posed by Jasmine Williams.
