| Introduction |
Shibata Katsushige (新発田 勝成) is one of the former candidates for the next head of the Yotsuba Family.[1]
Appearance and Personality[]
He is a tall young man.[2]
He has short business like black hair.[3]
He is mostly busy with work in the Ministry of Defense because that job requires him to report to work periodically on their day off.
Background[]
Katsushige currently works for the Ministry of Defense as a staff member. [4]
Both Tsutsumi Kotona and Tsutsumi Kanata serve as Katsushige's Guardians. [4]
Plot[]
His father Shibata Osamu calls him to ask how he's doing, then moves on to talk about stopping Shiba Miyuki from reaching the Yotsuba Main House for the New Year's Celebration. The reason being to postpone her from becoming the next head in order to deal with sealing Tatsuya's power. Katsushige reluctantly agrees to help in order to keep anyone from being seriously injured. Katsushige and his guardians confront Tatsuya's group before the tunnel to the Yotsuba Village and a battle between guardians is proposed. Katsushige challenges Tatsuya instead to avoid exposing Kotona from mortal danger as he is aware of how strong Tatsuya really is but the guardians' battle proceeds anyway. During the battle, he interferes with the fight to save Kotona but his guardians were defeated in the end. After the battle, Miyuki and Tsukuba Yuuka interrogates Katsushige on his interference but Tatsuya interrupts them and tells Katsushige to tend to his guardians instead to avoid permanent injuries. [2] During dinner with Yotsuba Maya and the rest of the candidate generation, Katsushige supports Miyuki on being the next head and asks to marry his guardian Kotona to which Maya grants who has no intention to tear apart two lovers. [5]
After the construction of the high-rise building to serve as a living quarter in Miyaki Island, Katsushige along with the heirs of the different Yotsuba families plans to move there to become a secret research center of the Yotsuba Clan in Tokyo. [6] On July 10, 2097, Katsushige along with his guardians moves to Miyaki Island and takes over the defense of the island since the Shibata family are more suitable in combat for defending the island while the island's previous defender, the Mashiba family specializes in observing and searching with mental interference magic that is more suitable for monitoring inmates when it was a prison island. [7]
After setting up a ploy to begin Tatsuya's mission to rescue Benjamin Canopus and Sakurai Minami, Katsushige and the Shibata combat magicians accompanies Tatsuya to the Virginia where he is to ensure that Tatsuya does not fall to the hands of someone outside the Yotsuba while Tatsuya feels calmer that Katsushige is with him. [8] After Tatsuya completes the mission, Katsushige acknowledges this and reports to the Yotsuba Main House.[9]
Abilities[]
Unlike many other Yotsuba Members, Katsushige specializes in ordinary magic with a high degree. He is an excellent magician who takes pride in his usage of a wide range of magic.
He is one of the strongest combat magician in Yotsuba.[2]
Density Manipulation (密度操作)[]
- It is his signature magic, which, allows him to freely manipulate the density of gas, liquid and solid bodies. It has many usages such as creating gas bombs, water cutters and producing cracks on any kind of solid.[2]

- It is an intense process that would have been difficult even for medical magicians, but Katsushige's able to apply medical treatment to more than one person effectively in a short time. [2]
