| Introduction |
Saeki Hiromi (佐伯 広海) nicknamed "Silver Fox", a flag officer in the National Defense Force. She is the former head of the National Defense Force 101 Independent Magic-Equipped Battalion.
Appearance[]
Saeki Hiromi has streaks of silver running through her grey hair, but it is her analytical skills that earned her the nickname, "Silver Fox" but gives off an appearance of a kindly grade school principal on first glance.[1]
Personality[]
Saeki Hiromi is a very cautious person who believes that being overly dependent on the Ten Master Clans for national defense is very dangerous. She is extremely critical of the Ten Master Clans, but she doesn't have any emotional opposition or hatred against magicians in general.
Background[]
Saeki is not a Magician, although she does possess weak magical talent.
During the Great Indochina War, Saeki serves as an information analyst at the National Defense Force GHQ and supported Kazama who ignored the high command's plan not to directly interfere by providing intelligence and operation plans which was the very reason for the military success. For her accomplishments, Saeki is showered with praises and even the upper echelons were impressed with her while, Kazama is frozen at Captain rank for his unauthorize action.
She is one of the most vocal opponents of the Ten Master Clans' influence in the military. In the aftermath of the Okinawa Defense Naval Battle, Saeki establishes the 101 Independent Magic-Equipped Battalion, an experimental battalion to serve as an independent magic power from the Ten Master Clans where she is commissioned as the fist commander and summons Kazama Harunobu, promotes him to Major and give him command of the Battalion.
She has a wide private network from which she often gathers information about other departments' activities which otherwise can't be obtained and also uses it to spread selective details as rumors to gain advantage in negotiations.[1]
Plot[]
Saeki summons Kazama to her office and consult with Kazama about the recent change in the Nine Schools Competition that is more like a military regiment training.[1]
After their promotions, Kazama Harunobu took over command of the entire 101 Brigade from Saeki. [2]
After confirming that Kazama will not assist Tatsuya on his raid to Midway Island, Saeki gives him a mission to escort the Australian prisoners Jasmine Williams and James Jeffrey Johnson to Iwojima, and personally deliver a letter of her draft for the Strategic Class Magician Control Agreement to William McCloud. McCloud gives his response and reveals to Kazama that the agreement seeks to register Strategic-Class Magicians with the International Magic Association and their country must take responsibility for controlling them but will not take responsibility for the consequences by the magic used in the past (especially Material Burst). The agreement also states that Strategic-Class Magicians who have political power or representatives of the government like being a leader of their country will not be affected by this. But for magicians like Carla Schmidt and Shiba Tatsuya who are far from politics, a catastrophic restriction of freedom is inevitable making Kazama realize that Saeki's goal is to take Tatsuya from the Yotsuba Clan and make him her subordinate.
