Holy Relics (聖遺物) or simply "Relics" (レリック) are OOPArts [1] that contain magical nature that had unidentifiable artificial components, yet formed naturally under highly challenging conditions.

A generic term for an out of place artifact which possesses magical properties. each has its own unique characteristics and has long been considered extremely difficult, if not impossible, to replicate even with modern technology. They have been unearthed in various parts of the world, and there are numerous varieties, such as "Antinite", which hampers the activation of magic, and the "Red Magatama Relic", which has the property if preserving magic sequences. Through a series of analysis of the [Red Magatama Relic], the replication of the Relic with the properties of preserving magic sequences has been successful. Thus, the Artificial Relic "Magistore" which constitutes the core of the system that drives the Stellar Reactor. Even with the successful efforts of devising a manufacturing method of Artificial Relics, there are still many unanswered questions about Relics, which are being further investigated by parties such as the National Defense Force and the National University of Magic.

The Antinite used for Cast Jamming cannot be fully classified as a type of relic, but its effects are as mysterious.

Magatama-Class Relic[]

MKnR-AN-S1-E19-SC-17

The Magatama is a type of Relic introduced in the Sixth Volume. According to Shiba Sayuri, research has discovered that this relic possesses the ability to store Magic Sequences.

The National Defense Force had demanded Four Leaves Technology to synthesize the relic, and Sayuri took up the project. She ultimately, and unwillingly asked Tatsuya's help analyzing it. [2]

Components[]

Relics are made by magically processing one or more materials that has high magical properties that may include extracting or infusing it with other materials. [3]

Jadeite[]

The Magatama Relic is made from Jadeite that is said to have been more prized than gold in the Ancient Far East. Although a pure Jadeite is colorless, the relic appears to be magically processed from green Jaedite, extracting the compound that is the source of the pigment and replacing it with Mercury Sulfide. But due to the Magatama's appearance of a reddish, transparent glossy gem, Rocky Dean thought it was a red agate. [3]

Mercury Sulfide[]

Mercury Sulfide is the magical component needed for the Magatama to form a magical circuit. It is sometimes associated with the Philosopher's Stone but in the Far East it is called cinnabar or red earth which has even more value as a magical component than in Europe. [3]

Magistore[]

Spoiler

Upon the establishment of the Magian Company, only Shiba Tatsuya is able to successfully synthesize an artificial relic which is called a "Magistore", where "Magi" abbreviated from "Magic" but it could also mean a curse or cursed charm; while "store" is for its ability to preserve a Magic Sequence like a storage place. [4]

The Magistore is the core of Tatsuya's plan to release Magicians from their fate as weapons through the Stellar Furnace Plant. Without the Magistore, a magician is permanently needed to maintain the magic for 24 hours a day essentially making them part of the plant itself which is the same as treating them as weapons. But with the Magistore, a magician needs to activate it which takes only twenty to thirty minutes including preparation time then they are required to be on standby incase of an emergency while the Magistore continues to cast the magic sequence stored in it for six hours. After six hours, the magician needs to reactivate the Magistore but in the future, the duration can be increased to 12 hours while the magic sequence stored in the Magistore is preserved for several months unless its overwritten with another magic sequence. [4]

A Magistore is used in Tatsuya's new SUV type Air-Car to enhance stealth function [5] and is also used to maintain the gravity of Spaceship Takachiho. [6]

Guru Stone Tablet[]

A Guru Stone Tablet is a black relic unearthed in Mount Shasta that teaches a spell to its user; hence the guru name. Currently, the only known spell taught by a Guru Stone Tablet is the Divine Punishment of the Tower of Babel where a magician pours their magic power to the stone tablet, causing the daemon in the stone tablet to awaken then possesses the magician to grant the spell engraved in the stone tablet. While the daemon is possessing the magician, the stone tablet is unusable. [7]

White Stone Tablet[]

The White Stone Tablets are another set of relics found in Mount Shasta which are 15 in total when it was excavated by FAIR. When Psion is poured on the tablet, the picture it shows is believed to be a map to Shambhala. [8]

Octagonal Stone[]

The Octagonal Stone is a relic also found in Mount Shasta that serves as a compass for the White Stone Tablet since map on the tablet is different from the modern layout and it moves when Psions are poured into it. [8] The Octagonal Stone is eventually referred to as a "compass" by Tatsuya's group.

The Moon Key, also known as White Key is a white stone disk that is excavated by Tatsuya in Lake Tudakul, Ubekistan Central Asia. It is two times larger than the compass and one of the face has an eight-petal lotus flower carved in it while its other side has the "Banner of Peace" symbol which is three adjacent circles that forms an equilateral triangle and enclosed by a larger circle.[9]

Sky Key[]

The Sky Key, also known as Blue Key is a blue stone disk with a surface as smooth as glass that also has the same eight-petal lotus flower carved on one side. It is excavated by Tatsuya in the Samanian Mausoleum. When used in combination with the "compass", it points to the Necropolis of Chor-Bakr. [10]

Sun Key[]

The Sun Key, also known as Yellow Key is a yellow stone disk obtained by Tatsuya at an altar hidden deep underground at the Necropolis of Chor-Bakr. Together with the Moon Key, Sky Key and Sun Key, it marks the location of Shambhala's Vault.[10]

Wand[]

The "Wand" is a fifty centimeters tall "stick" with a wood like texture a spherical jeweled head made of fused quartz at one end. It acts as a kind of remote terminal for accessing Shambhala's artifacts from outside the Vault but does not allow passage to any electromagnetic waves, x-rays nor magnetic field rays except for waves of light in the visible spectrum.[10]

Excavation Sites[]

Relics originate from sites that have a spiritual geographic features usually seen in lost prehistoric civilizations through out the world and because of this, searching for places with similar traits are the main criteria used to find and unearth other excavation sites of relics at higher chances. [3]

Mount Norikura[]

Mount Norikura (乗鞍岳, Norikura-dake) is a three thousand meter high mountain located at the Itoigawa region, the former Niigata Prefecture in the Chubu Region in Japan and is known as the oldest source of jadeite gemstones as well as the oldest excavation site of processed jadeite in the world. The Ichijou Clan is in charge of the this area since Itoigawa is part of the Hokuriku Region. [3]
The information that the Magatama-class relics are found at the foot of Mount Norikura is a secret held by the National Defense Force and the site is guarded by them. Despite this, it is still a much more realistic target this excavation site rather than trying to steal a relic from the Weapons Research Center in Tokyo which has a much tighter security. [11]

Mount Shasta[]

Mount Shasta is a high mountain in Northern California, USNA that is over four thousand meters high that is known as the source of a famous mineral water and has similar spiritual geographical features to Mount Norikura based on the lay of the land [12] and has been a so called power spot since the last century. Shasta is also considered a holy ground by the natives and a popular tourist destination for the people of Japan leading to possibilities that Relics can be found here. [13]

Shambhala[]

Shambahala (香巴拉, Sanskrit: शम्भल) is a lost ancient civilization mentioned in the Kalachakra (Wheel of Time) Tantra of Tibetan Buddhism that existed only in legends. Magicians believe that Shambhala is a highly magical civilized country that manufactured relics like Antinite and the recent unearthed relics in Mount Shasta could lead to the location of this lost civilization.
