Lina reflects on the international situation caused the massive explosion near Japan in 2096, and the mission she has been given by the USNA to find the one responsible. In preparation for the mission, she is hard at work researching Japanese fashion while reflecting on her position as the ‘Sirius’, who is said to be the strongest magician in the world. Done with her research for the time being, Lina looks over the profiles of her targets again.
In Japan, the Shiba siblings are enjoying a Christmas Party with their friends. The fact Shizuku will be studying abroad in America comes up in the conversation and the group discuss it though Tatsuya casually bringing up the recent civil unrest there is not received too well. The party continues with everyone in high spirits until they part ways at the end of the night.
Honoka heads home with Shizuku for a sleepover. Honoka, feeling lonely, asks Shizuku not to forget about her and Shizuku comforts her saying it’s just for the semester. The conversation turns to Tatsuya and Honoka thinks back to her failed confession back over summer break. Honoka says she wants to get closer to Tatsuya while Shizuku is away but isn’t sure if it’s okay due to Miyuki. This prompts Shizuku to think back to when she spoke to Miyuki and how Miyuki all but confessed that she loved Tatsuya. Shizuku starts to relay this to Honoka but she falls asleep midsentence leaving Honoka wondering what she was saying.
Miyuki and Tatsuya get ready to head out for the New Year’s shrine visit where they meet up with Leo and Honoka. While visiting Tatsuya detects a strange gaze and looks over to see Lina not blending very well. Miyuki misinterprets Tatsuya’s interest and gets jealous but is quickly calmed down by Tatsuya.
At the airport Honoka gives a teary farewell to Shizuku and is comforted by Miyuki.
Lina has a nightmare about chasing villains as a magical girl. After a shower, Lina greets her colleagues, Michaela and Silvia. Michaela’s greeting is a little stiff. Lina’s reacting to a magical girl TV show prompts Silvia to start telling Michaela a story about Lina’s past but is quickly stopped. Once Lina is dressed the three discuss the mission and how Lina is going to First High where the targets, Tatsuya and Miyuki, are studying. The other two recap their assignments as well.
Lina’s first day at school is eventful and she makes contact with Miyuki and shocked to be beaten at magic by Miyuki and by the cute lunch set. At lunch Lina is introduced to Tatsuya and they all get to know each other, but Lina makes a slight slip and is subtly called out by Tatsuya and Lina has to make a quick excuse to cover it up.
After school Lina reflects on the fact with the questions asked it felt like she was the hunted and not the hunter but when Michaela and Silvia notice her melancholy, she quickly reassures them.
At school, Tatsuya goes to the Public Morals Committee and is asked is show Lina around. Tatsuya does so and introduces her to a number of people, including Juumonji Katsuto, Kirihara Takeaki and several others. While Tatsuya is talking to Takeaki, Lina notices the fact Tatsuya has no emblem and asks Honoka about it, and realises she hit a nerve.
A little later, when they are alone, Lina challenges Tatsuya about pretending to be poor at magic and test him by attacking him. Tatsuya easily parries Lina and restrains her when she tried to follow through with a second attack. After confirming she is done, Tatsuya lets Lina go and the two then part ways. Unbeknown to Lina, Honoka saw the entire thing from behind a corner nearby and from the angle she was at she gets the mistaken idea they were having a romantic moment.
Honoka calls an exhausted Shizuku and tells Shizuku about what happened and her concerns about Lina and Tatsuya. Shizuku tells Honoka to ask Lina about it as she falls asleep.
Next day, Honoka pictures attempting to get Lina to talk but can only picture them being interrupted by Miyuki and being attacked in a jealous rage. Finally working up the nerve to ask, Honoka approaches Lina and Miyuki and asks, explaining what she saw. Seeing Miyuki’s reaction Lina quickly explains it is a misunderstanding and ends by commenting on how intimidating Miyuki was a moment ago. At this point Eimi and Akaha arrive with a proposition.
After calling to get permission from Silvia, Lina joins Miyuki, Akaha, Eimi, Honoka and Subaru as they visit Wonderland. The group heads for a café there where they see Tomitsuka, dressed in a bunny waiter uniform, whom Eimi proceeds to shower with attention, despite Tomitsuka’s reluctance to humour her. The group continue to have fun for the day, ranging from the attractions to girl talk.
When she gets home, Lina gives Michaela a souvenir.
January 14th. Eimi and the gang are leaving the café and Tomitsuka heads outside with the trash when he is suddenly attacked by a person in a mask. When the assailant realises that they cannot harm Tomitsuka, they withdraw before Tomitsuka can react. Nearby, both Lina and Miyuki sense the exchange as they are leaving.
Lina receives a call from the USNA informing her the deserters have escaped into Japan and that she’ll have to resume the hunt.
At First High, Tatsuya and friends are having lunch and discuss the ‘vampire’ attacks. Shizuku mentioned that something similar is happening in the USNA, though not near where Shizuku is staying. Tatsuya wonders if the absent Lina is worrying about the situation, and whether Miyuki is also concerned for Lina.
Lina comes to school, worrying about the situation. She bumps into Honoka who greets her, and the pair walk together. Suddenly the pair get mobbed by overeager students wanting to recruit Lina into their clubs.
Finally escaping, the pair reach the student council room, with Lina somewhat traumatised by the ordeal. Discussing it with Miyuki and Azusa, Lina is offered a spot on the student council.
That evening, the masked man stands over a fallen woman who is confused at the fact he no longer needs a CAD. The masked man moves to finish the woman but is stopped by Angie Sirius. The masked man flees and Sirius gives chase, but when she catches up she finds the man standing over an unconscious Leo.
Tatsuya finished talking to Shizuku and then returned the phone to Honoka. Miyuki asks if Erika will be all right and Tatsuya comments that he needs more information but cannot contact Fujibayashi due to the orders of the main house. This reminds Miyuki that she is the chain binding him to the Yotsuba family.
Erika and Mikihiko are out hunting for the ‘vampires’ and Mikihiko mentions the possibility of allying with the Saegusa and Juumonji families, but Erika is not prepared to discuss the option. Getting close to their target, Mikihiko messages Tatsuya, who is at home. Seeing the message Tatsuya heads out, leaving Miyuki behind.
Elsewhere, Lina, disguised as Sirius, kills one of the ‘vampires’ after shooting a hole through their chest. Another one attacks her but it is blocked by her magic defences.
Erika and Mikihiko chance upon Lina and the vampire and attack, with Erika lunging at Lina and Mikihiko competing against the ‘vampire’. After exchanging attacks several times, Lina gains the upper hand and blows Erika back. Lina tries to follow through, but her magic is disabled. She looks over to see Tatsuya. Seeing she is at a disadvantage, Lina triggers magic to escape.
As Lina makes her escape with her colleagues, she wonders what is with high school students nowadays, given Erika’s strength and Tatsuya’s counter-magic.
At their home, Tatsuya and Miyuki are on a call with Maya. Tatsuya asks for the details on the Kudou Family's spell Parade. They discuss the spell and Maya confirms Tatsuya’s suspicions about the spell. Miyuki realises he was referring to Lina.
At school the next day, Lina’s arm is still hurt. Tatsuya comes to the Student Council Room as Lina is leaving and Tatsuya pats her on her injured shoulder, and she realises it wasn’t an accident, though says nothing.
After school, Tatsuya and Miyuki are watching the movements of all the groups hunting the ‘vampires’ on screen. Tatsuya comments the USNA has better tracking equipment. The pair have a warm exchange as Tatsuya gets up to leave.
As she waits and watches, Miyuki laments the situation and her part in it, being the chains that bind him. Someone buzzes the intercom and Miyuki discovers it is Kokonoe Yakumo.
In the car, Miyuki and Kokonoe are heading out and Kokonoe explains he has a duty to ensure secret techniques remain secret, hence is direct involvement this time.
Arriving at the destination, Miyuki sees Lina and Tatsuya fighting and jumps into the fray.
Miyuki has interrupted Tatsuya and Lina’s fight. Some fake police officers try to supress Tatsuya and Miyuki but they are quickly overwhelmed by the Shiba siblings and Kokonoe Yakumo. Lina is now the one surrounded. Upon realising Tatsuya was drawing information out of Lina, she apologies for interrupting but Tatsuya says it was the right call, to Miyuki’s elation. The conversation moves to Lina and after some discussion Tatsuya proposes a duel, if Lina wins then she can go, lose and she answers some questions. Miyuki interjects and requests to be the one to duel with Lina.
The four change locations, with Miyuki enjoying the bike ride with Tatsuya. In the car, Kokonoe tells Lina she must keep the secrets of the Kudou she inherited a secret and not share them with others, that is his only reason for being here. He goes on to say just because one can use magic doesn’t mean one must be a magician and just because one is a magician doesn’t mean one must serve the nation. These words hit Lina hard.
Lina and Miyuki get ready for their duel, with Kokonoe acting as the referee. Lina takes her place and turns around, only to see Tatsuya kissing Miyuki on her forehead. Once the pair are done, Miyuki readies up and she and Lina get ready to fight.
On the signal an intense magic battle begins with both Lina and Miyuki giving their all. The match keeps escalating until the pair face off with Lina launching Muspelheim and Lina countering with Niflheim. With the match getting out of hand, Tatsuya dispel the two spells, causing a huge blast. Miyuki uses magic to defend herself and Tatsuya and, the match over, rushes to check he is okay. Kokonoe then interjects, pointing out Tatsuya has caused an issue due to the victory requirements, but Lina admits she would have lost and agrees to answer their questions, but only with yes or no answers due to the change in the agreed terms of the duel.
