The siblings, Tatsuya and Miyuki, stroll together through the town to celebrate Miyuki’s 15th birthday and shop for her graduation present. Their behaviour feels more like they are a couple on a date when suddenly Tatsuya gets a call from the head of the family.
Leaving his sister behind, Tatsuya goes to meet with the head butler regarding a job to disable an enhanced pyrokinetic, who plans to attack the Magic Association. Realising this is near the place where Tatsuya arranged to meet up with his sister, Tatsuya rushes back.
Meanwhile, the fire alarm goes off in the building where Miyuki is waiting. Investigating the cause of this unnatural fire that the sprinklers couldn't handle, she finds a magician to be the reason behind it.
Miyuki extinguishes the fire and uses Area Interference to suppress the magic of the pyrokinetic magician; even the pistol the magician tries to use doesn't work against her. When the magician draws out a knife and charges, Tatsuya rushes in and defeats the magician using only close combat fighting techniques.
The head butler handles the aftermath and makes sure that all pictures from this incident give no clear visual image of Miyuki as part of the clean-up. However, despite the efforts of the head butler some people at the First High School manage to find out that the new honor student Miyuki was the one in the pictures about the incident; and they plan to recruit her for the Student Council and the boy with her for the disciplinary committee.
As the freshman representative, Miyuki has to give a speech in front of all the students during the entrance ceremony of the First National Magic University Affiliated High School. In the audience Honoka recognises her from the entrance exams as the girl who held first place by a huge margin. Afterwards the Student Council President Mayumi Saegusa tries to invite her to join the Student Council but is interrupted by a huge crowd wanting to talk to Miyuki.
Mayumi brings up Tatsuya allowing Miyuki a chance to leave. Mayumi discusses Tatsuya’s amazing test scores in theory as they go. They find Tatsuya talking to Erika and Mizuki. A crowd followed and are making a fuss amongst themselves that Miyuki is a Bloom (honor student) but Tatsuya is a Weed from course 2. Mayumi annoyed by this breaks up the crowd by leaving. Honoka is really upset Tatsuya is a Weed.
At home Miyuki and Tatsuya reflect on the day alone. Miyuki later gets a call from her father to congratulate he acceptance into First High, but Tatsuya is ignored for only being a Guardian. Honoka explains to Shizuku over the phone, about how flawless Tatsuya’s technique was at the entrance exam and why she is so upset he’s in course 2.
On the way to school, Miyuki’s magic goes out of control when she gets angry when discussing her parents congratulated her for joining the First High School but not her brother.
At school Miyuki is annoyed by the obvious segregation of courses 1 and 2. In classroom 1-A Honoka tries to introduce herself to Miyuki but fumbles at this, so her friend Shizuku comes to help her out. The discriminatory remarks against course 2 really irritate Miyuki. She also draws a lot of unwanted attention from the male students in her class.
After class orientation Miyuki leaves with Honoka and Shizuku and watch a demonstration on emission-type magic. Morisaki tries to show off by answering the teachers question but fails and Miyuki shows her superior knowledge. At lunch Miyuki tries to join Tatsuya and his classmates but Morisaki tries to force them to leave on grounds course 2 students are inferior.
Everyone is infuriated by Morisaki’s attitude, Miyuki tries to explain she wants to eat with Tatsuya, but he won’t listen. To avoid an escalation of the conflict Tatsuya pretends to be finished and leaves the table. Honoka and Shizuku notice Miyuki is upset.
After school Miyuki tries to leave with Tatsuya and his classmates but the students of 1-A led by Morisaki are demanding Miyuki’s time despite her wishes to leave with Tatsuya. Things turn violent when Morisaki pulls his CAD to attack but before he managed to activate magic, that CAD was sent flying because of a physical attack from Erika. Other students begin to attack so Honoka tries to stop them with a spell of her own but is stopped by Mayumi.
With the arrival of Mayumi and Mari the fight stops but they mistakenly think Honoka was going to launch an attack. Tatsuya steps in and explains it was a flash spell and talks them into accepting it was all a misunderstanding. Honoka is glad Miyuki realised the truth and joins the group on the way home along with Shizuku.
The next morning Miyuki and her brother meet up with the Tatsuya’s classmates on the way to school. Mayumi calls out to Tatsuya in an overly friendly way invites them to visit the Student Council Room during lunch. The others decline but Miyuki and Tatsuya accept and at lunch they arrive at the Student Council Room.
During the lunch at the Student Council Room, Miyuki is invited to join the Student Council. Miyuki's requests that her brother also join, given his theory grades but due to an official rule that only students of Course 1 are permitted to join. Mari instead invites Tatsuya to join the Disciplinary Committee.
After school Vice President Hattori opposes a Course 2 student joining the Disciplinary Committee and refutes the claim he can read activation sequences in launch. Miyuki objects to this but Hattori disregards her point as nepotism. To defend Miyuki’s honor, Tatsuya challenges him to a mock battle despite not being interested in joining the Disciplinary Committee.
The mock battle is instantly won by Tatsuya using a mix of Ninjutsu physical techniques and a highly complex spell using triple overlapping waves from a limited-edition Silver Horn C.A.D. that is optimized for Loop Casting. With that victory Tatsuya negates Hattori's objections, and he becomes a member of the Disciplinary Committee.
Miyuki is then introduced to her new work for the Student Council by Nakajou, where she accidentally finds out Shizuku and Honoka took second and third place in the entrance exams respectively. Mayumi teases the siblings, which makes Miyuki a bit insecure, but Tatsuya shrugs it off. After the others leave Juumonji meets with Mayumi to discuss her plans and the siblings. On the way home Tatsuya reassures Miyuki.
At home, Miyuki is worrying about Tatsuya spending time with the female upperclassmen. She asks Tatsuya to change some of her activation sequences in her CAD. After the measurements for this are finished, the conversation turns to the female upperclassmen on the Student Council. Tatsuya admits to finding them charming which triggers Miyuki’s jealousy and she attacks her brother with magic, causing him to hit the floor.
The next morning, during the time Tatsuya has his morning training, Miyuki thinks about her feelings for her brother and remembers the past event where her brother saved her life.
Elsewhere Sayaka Mibu, another Course 2 student at First High School, is brainwashed to hate the Disciplinary Committee leader and fight the discrimination at the school.
The week of club recruitment begins. Because the wearing and use of CADs by all students is allowed during this time, both the Disciplinary Committee and the Student Council members are very busy.
Outside Honoka and Shizuku are swarmed by club members trying to recruit them. Suddenly both are grabbed by 2 girls on skateboards and taken away; Mari starts to chase after them on a borrowed skateboard. In the meantime, Amy is with the hunting club who get hit by psionic waves from the gymnasium where Tatsuya is apprehending Kirihara.
The skateboard pursuit continues, and both parties start to use magic. The two kidnappers manage to escape after dropping Honoka and Shizuku at the S.S. Board Biathlon Club recruitment station. Both Honoka and Shizuku decide to join the club after hearing the explanation of what this club is about. Later, while helping some sickened people from the Hunting Club, Honoka and Shizuku are introduced to Akechi (Amy) Goldie, another first-year student.
After gym Miyuki discusses the events of the prior day with Honoka and Shizuku. On the way home Honoka uses magic to get Shizuku, Amy and herself through the still ongoing recruitment.
The girls observe how Tatsuya was attacked by a 3rd party when breaking up a fight. Amy thinks Tatsuya is cool. After some discussion the girls decided to find some proof of the attacker but had to run from the recruiters first because Honoka’s spell stopped working.
Mayumi returns to the Student Council Room and discovers Ichihara has sent Azusa home early. Miyuki is waiting for Tatsuya who delivers to a report from the Disciplinary Committee. She realises he has been under magical attacks, and gets angry but Tatsuya quickly reassures her it’s all under control.
Elsewhere the person who attacked Tatsuya talks to another man bout Tatsuya and his exploits in the recruitment week. They decide to use Mibu to recruit him to their cause.
Bonus chapter: Miyuki can’t decide what clothes she should wear.
Kirihara is cautioned by Juumonji over the incident in the gymnasium. He asks for an explanation as to why he used deadly magic. Kirihara says he things someone is manipulating Mibu and it ticked him off. A bit later Miyuki and Mayumi discuss Juumonji’s report on this and are concerned by the possible implications.
From the school roof Honoka, Shizuku and Amy are trying to get evidence on Tatsuya’s attackers. They observe when Tatsuya negates a magical surprise attack from the kendo club captain but aren’t sure who he is. After asking Miyuki they could get information on the club leaders they confirm Tsukasa Kinoe was the one who attacked Tatsuya. They decide to try to get a picture of him attacking Tatsuya.
Tatsuya talks with his sister about Honoka and Shizuku and tells her that they are observing him. He also mentions to her that they were taking pictures of the person messing with him.
The next day a picture of someone running away is submitted to the student council. They discuss it with Tatsuya and Mari at lunch, but it isn’t enough to be used as evidence of a magical attack.
After class Mibu is looking for Tatsuya.
While Tatsuya is escorting Miyuki to the Student Council Room Mibu introduce herself to them and ask for a meeting with Tatsuya. He agrees to meet after seeing Miyuki to the Student Council. Miyuki senses something is off and is concerned.
The next day at lunch, the siblings meet with Mari and the Student and the conversation turns to the meeting with Mibu. Mari teases Tatsuya over Mibu getting flustered which causes Miyuki to lose the control of her magic. After calming her down Tatsuya tells the group that Mibu thinks the Disciplinary Committee Members are abusing their posts just to get better grades. This is instantly denied by Mari as there is no merit system. He also mentions that Mibu think that the course 1 students get preferential treatment in club activities and that the non-magic clubs decided to coordinate because of this. But when asked what they plan to do after they told the school what they think Mibu couldn’t give an answer.
Mari states it seems the students are being manipulated. Tatsuya asks if it is Blanche. Mayumi tell the other that this school is undermines by Égalité a lower branch of Blanche an anti-magic group.
Miyuki gets a detailed explanation from her brother about the terror organisation Blanche and the branch organization Égalité. He states they have a backer who wants to weaken Japan. They also hope that President Saegusa resolves the issue so the Yotsuba don’t get involved.
After school Honoka, Shizuku and Amy discuss the photo the submitted and how it doesn't seem to have made a difference. They see Tsukasa leaving school when the Kendo Club should have practise and decided to follow Tsukasa secretly to investigate.
Miyuki spots Honoka, Shizuku and Amy tailing Tsukasa Kinoe and follows them. The three are led into an ambushed by Blanche, they defend themselves but and are overcome by antinite. Miyuki steps in and, unaffected by the anitinite, incapacitates all the terrorists, saving Honoka and the others. She convinced them not to call the police and sends them home. She calls Kokonoe Yakumo to incarcerate the incapacitated members of Blanche.
Tsukasa Kinoe and his older brother discuss searching for the ambush team to silence them and decide that the time has come to assault First High.
While Tatsuya goes to FLT, Miyuki goes out shopping for his birthday present. While shopping Miyuki comes upon a helmet similar to the ones worn by the men from Blanche, reminded of the incident she goes to Kokonoe’s temple. Kokonoe isn’t pleased to involve Miyuki but he takes her to see the prisoners. The Balance fanatic angers Miyuki so she speeds along the interrogation using MI magic before returning home.
Sayaka Mibu and Égalité members take over the broadcasting room to demand an end to discrimination. The next day Miyuki discusses recent events with Honoka and Shizuku and is merciless in her denouncement of the conduct of the students who broke into the broadcasting room.
Tatsuya and Miyuki go to Kokonoe’s temple to learn more about Tsukasa Kinoe. They learn that his brother, Hajime Tsukasa, is the leader of the Japanese branch of Blanche.
It’s the day of the debate between Mayumi Saegusa and the First High students allied to fight discrimination. While the debate is underway the S.S. Biathlon Club practice continues as usual. Honoka and Shizuku discuss if they should have gone to the debate but are interrupted by the club’s president Tsugumi. There is an explosion and she informs the club that the school has come under attack by terrorists and gives them permission to use the clubs CADs to defend themselves. Honoka is attacked by a knife wielding Blanche member, Honoka hesitates but is saved by Shizuku and Tsugumi. Morisaki Shun stops by to check on and warn the S.S. Biathlon Club about what is happening. He tells them to stay put as this will be a rally point for the other clubs.
Miyuki intervenes in the fight between Leo and three members of Blanche incapacitating the terrorists. Erika arrives with Leo’s CAD and discuss their next course of action when Ono Haruka arrives and informs them the terrorists are targeting the library. Haruka requests they save Sayaka Mibu. Meanwhile Mibu is in the Library with the terrorists who are hacking the database.
While Leo joins the melee outside the library, Erika, Miyuki, and Tatsuya sneak inside. Tatsuya determines the location of all the terrorists posted inside the library with his elemental sight. After Tatsuya informs the group of the terrorists location, Erika dashes out of hiding and quickly incapacitates two of the guards. Two more come rushing down the stairs, Miyuki causes one of them to trip down the stairs while Erika holds the last one off. Miyuki and Tatsuya head to the library’s viewing room.
Meanwhile Sayaka reminisces about her motivation to end discrimination. Sayaka ends her self reflection with Tatsuya and Miyuki breaking down the door.
Miyuki and Tatsuya stop the hacking attempt and attempt to talk Mibu down. She uses cast jamming and escapes, but the terrorists aren’t so lucky. She runs into Erica in the lobby and a fight ensues.
Honoka and Shizuku collect their CADs and spot Tsukasa trying to escape and inform the disciplinary committee. Tsukasa is intercepted by Tatsumi who informs him they have evidence of his involvement with the terrorists. Tsukasa flees using magic but is stopped by Sawaki.
Later in the infirmary Mibu, who’s arm is broken, is questioned by Mayumi. She says it began with her being she was discriminated against by Mari who refused to duel her for being a Course 2 student. Mari corrects her pointing out she declined as she’s an inferior swordsman. Mibu realising her mistake breaks down but Tatsuya realised she’s been brainwashed. After consoling Mibu Tatsuya decides to take action against the terrorists and after convincing the seniors he gat intel from Ono Sensei to plan the attack.
Using intel gained from Councillor Ono, Tatsuya and company discover the terrorist base is very close to the school. Mayumi and Mari stay to watch the school while Tatsuya, Miyuki, Erica, Leo and Juumonji are to deal with the threat. Kirihara joins them outside and they head out to deal with the terrorists in Juumonji’s car.
Leo uses Fortification Magic on the car to break down the gates and following Tatsuya’s plan Erika and Leo hold the gate, Juumonji and Kirihara take the rear entrance and Miyuki and Tatsuya take the front.
Inside the terrorist’s base of operations, they are confronted by the leader Tsukasa Hajine and a large group of armed terrorists. Tatsuya tells them to surrender and after a brief exchange of words Tsukasa attempts to brainwash Tatsuya with magic. He fails and orders his men to shoot but Tatsuya disarms all the terrorists by using magic. Tsukasa flees, and Tatsuya gives chase. A terrorist attacks him from behind but Miyuki freezes him and then uses Niflhiem to freeze all the others.
The battle continues, Erika knocks out some terrorists outside, while Juumonji and Kirihara advance. The terrorists use cast jamming on Tatsuya, but it fails, and he neutralises the last of the terrorists. The leader tries to escape but is stopped by Kirihara who cuts off Tsukasa’s arm in rage.
The police and take over. Miyuki is worried she over did it and killed the terrorists, but Tatsuya healed them, so no one died. Miyuki is feeling down as she nearly killed in a fit of temper, so Tatsuya pampers her to cheer her up.
Miyuki spoils Tatsuya for his birthday starting with a fancy breakfast and outfit. After school the friends all meet in the in the café which Miyuki reserved. Erika guesses it’s for Tatsuya’s birthday and everyone is surprised as only Miyuki knew.
In May the siblings visit Mibu in hospital and bump into Erika. Mibu and Kirihara appear to be close so Erika teases them and Mibu opens up admitting she did like Tatsuya, but she knew he was beyond her but Kirihara is someone she can say beside. As the siblings leave Miyuki promises to stay with Tatsuya and frets over his treatment at school. Tatsuya reassures her. Amy, Honoka and Shizuku make a study date.
Amy, Honoka and Shizuku hold a study session before the exams. Shizuku is especially enthusiastic as the exam results will determine who gets to participate in the upcoming Nine Schools Competition. The three are confident of their chances but Shizuku reminds them Ichijou Masaki will be competing for Third High. After the session they realise they didn’t get much studying done.
The exam results are released and Miyuki, Shizuku and Honoka hold the top three spots overall. However Tatsuya, Miyuki and Mikihiko hold the top spots in theory which is an upset to the status quo. Mayumi asked Miyuki to participate in the Nine Schools Competition and comments Shizuku, Amy, Honoka and Subaru are likely to be nominated also.
The competitors arrive at the competition venue and attend the welcoming banquet. There the girls are fussing over Ichijou Masaki which annoys the elite Third High freshmen Isshiki Airi who is with her friends Kanou Shiori and Tsukushiin Touko.
When they notice someone has caught the eye of Ichijou Masaki they look over at Shiba Miyuki and Isshiki instinctively feels fear and awe at the sight of her. The three go over to introduce themselves but Isshiki rudely dismisses Miyuki thinking she is a commoner after nor recognising her family name from the Numbers.
Afterwards Honoka and Shizuku discuss the three from Third High in their rooms when Amy arrives and asks them to join them in the artificial hot spring in the basement. After relaxing in the hot spring, they are spotted by Isshiki who continues to look down on them.
The competition gets underway and everyone is enjoying watching the Seniors participating in their respective competitions.
On the second day Honoka bumps into Tatsuya during her morning workout and he helps her out with her training. Honoka gets embarrassed by their proximity but Tatsuya remains impassive.
Later her friends notice she’s in a very good mood. They overhear people complaining about the popularity of First High’s seniors and commenting on the bus accident. Isshiki scolds a pair of Third High students for wishing First High had dropped out because of the accident and wished Mizuo luck in her match against Mari.
The Battle Board semi-final gets underway but when the player from Seventh High loses control and is going to crash Mari tries to catch her but is thrown off balance causing them to collide and throwing them off the course.
Everyone is relieved to her there is no permanent damage to Mari, but she’ll need a week to recover meaning she cannot compete in Mirage Bat. Mayumi and Juumonji discuss Tatsuya investigating the possibility of sabotage and who could be responsible.
Tatsuya investigates and confirms it was sabotage and not an accident. He tells the others the Seventh High players CAD must have been infected with a virus during the inspections. They agree not to tell the others. Afterwards Miyuki ask Tatsuya if he suspects anyone and he tells her Major Kazuma’s warning about the crime syndicate and the attempted break in.
The competition continues and Kanon wins her Ice Pillar Break matches. Later, First High’s strategy team discuss the competition results so far and ask Miyuki to enter the main competition rather than the rookie competition one to replace Mari. Third High win Battle Board but Mizuo is not happy due to only winning because of the accident. Miyuki’s appointment to replace Mari is announced and Ichijou and Isshiki are surprised. Mizuo and Isshiki decide to aim for the one two finish in the main competitions Mirage Bat.
The rookie competition begins, and Tatsuya’s gives Shizuku her Cad for the Speed Shooting qualifier. First Shizuku impresses the audience with Active Air Mine although Kanou Shiori tells Isshiki she is confident she can counter it due to the lack of fine control involved. Shizuku finishes with a perfect score.
Third Highs Kanou Shiori puts on an impressive display using Arithmetic Chain. Isshiki reflects on when they first met and the training Kanou has undertaken. The qualifier ends with the rookie competitions second perfect score. In the audience Tatsuya discusses the technique and comments on how the advanced level of Third Highs competitors.
On the way to the ready room for Shizuku’s CAD adjustments she and Tatsuya bump into Kanou and Isshiki. Kanou states she looks forward to facing off against Shizuku in the semi-finals.
All of First Highs players get through to the semi-finals. Kanou discusses Shizuku’s technique with Kichijouji and is confident she can adjust for all nine convergence variations in active air mine.
Shizuku and Kanou face off in the semi-final match and it begins with an extremely high-level battle. The match starts going in Kanou’s favour early one with a slight lead. Tatsuya is impressed that they adapted to their strategy after seeing it only once.
Kanou thinks back to the time before she met Isshiki and her parents who were from the ‘Extras’. Kanou realised she is getting overtaxed but doesn’t understand why. Her strategist Kichijouji realises he made a mistake and that Shizuku’s CAD is a multipurpose type and not a specialised type meaning it has eleven times more activation sequences than expected which is more than Kanou can cope with.
Kanou realises too late and the pressure gets to her causing her last chain to miss. The match ends with Shizuku’s victory.
First High hold all three top spots in Girls Speed Shooting. Everyone praises Tatsuya but when he’s offered the chance to be entered into the index, he turns it down and asks for the spell to be put under Shizuku’s name.
Third High have a meeting about the results. Ichijou and Kichijouji realise it’s the engineer from First High who is to blame and warn everyone that his matches will be an uphill battle.
Kanou blames herself for her loss and shuts herself away. Isshiki is concerned for her but is unable to console Kanou and worries she may have to find a replacement for Ice Pillar Break although Tsukushiin Touko assures her it’ll be fine.
Tsukushiin heads to the stadium and bumps into Honoka who is extremely anxious over possible accidents in Battle Board. Tsukushiin reassures her there won’t be any accidents.
Later Tatsuya comes to check on Honoka, and they watch Tsukushiin’s first match together. Tatsuya tells Honoka that Tsukushiin is from a long line of Shinto ancient magic users. Tsukushiin uses magic to knock her opponents off their boards at the starting line and uses waves to slow their acceleration allowing her an overwhelming victory.
Honoka is feeling intimidated by Tsukushiin’s performance but Tatsuya reassures her. Honoka thinks back to two weeks before the competition and her training with Tatsuya for Battle Board and the strategy and unique variant of a light spell he made just for her.
The race begins and Honoka uses the spell to reflect light off the water blinding the other racers and allowing her a huge lead. The other players try to catch up and one creates a wave to slow Honoka down, but she rides it and ends up further ahead when the wave rebounds into the caster allowing her a decisive victory.
After Honoka’s race she thanks Tatsuya whilst Tsukushiin decides she’s looking forwards to the faceoff in the final.
The freshmen girls of First High are celebrating the days results over snacks and tea. They discuss the events they have the next day but Subaru and Nanami are upset they don’t have Tatsuya engineering for them since he’s on Ice Pillar Break with Miyuki, Amy and Shizuku. The mention him turning down the opportunity to be entered in the index, Miyuki dismisses it as a bad habit but is secretly worrying its because of the Yotsuba.
Third High’s Kanou is still depressed. Isshiki tells her she’ll be replaced if she doesn’t snap out of it and has until 6am tomorrow morning. Mizuo who is sharing the room with Kanou overhears and discusses reminds Kanou she is Isshiki’s friend and she shouldn’t give up after one loss.
Tatsuya returns to his room later that night to find Miyuki waiting for him. He scolds her for wandering around so late and offers to take her back to her room. Miyuki asks if her turned down the index because of their Aunt which he confirms which upsets Miyuki further. Tatsuya reminds her even if they other threw their Aunt someone worse would simply take up the reins, so they have no choice but to obey. Miyuki declares she will stay by Tatsuya’s side no matter what happens.
Next morning Isshiki is waiting for Kanou at Third High’s tent.
Isshiki is continuing to wait when Kanou arrives and apologises for worrying her.
In Cloudball Nanami and Subaru both win their second rounds and are optimistic about their chances winning the Cloudball competition until they see Isshiki’s second match which is won with a completely overwhelming shutout.
She and Nanami face off in the semi-final. Nanami uses magic to bounce the balls in a variety of odd directions in attempt to overwhelm Isshiki but she counters using superhuman speed and returns all balls sent her way leading to a complete victory in the second round.
After the match Isshiki bumps into Mizuo and they discuss the match while preparing to watch Kanou’s first match. Meanwhile Nanami tells Subaru about Isshiki’s magic.
Honoka bumps into Tsukushiin and they end up going to watch the matches together. First they watch Kanou go up against Sano from Fourth High in Ice Pillar Break. Kanou creates vibrations in mid air to bypass the information boost Sano was using to defend her pillars, destroying over half in moments. Sano switches to a mobile defence by making her pillars move. However, Kanou predicts this is only possible by lowering the defence allowing her to destroy the last pillars directly leading to an overwhelming win.
Next is the Cloudball final between Isshiki and Subaru. The match starts evenly with both sides giving it there best. Isshiki notices Subaru’s awareness block’s effect and changes strategy focusing on the balls rather than her opponent. Using her innate spell ‘Lightning’ she overwhelms Subaru with shear speed. Winning the match in straight sets. Honoka observes the result with Tsukushiin on screen and she lets slip she saw the light around Isshiki’s neck.
Tsukushiin explains the light was from Isshiki’s CAD and that her spell allows her nerves to process information directly, enhancing her speed and reaction times.
Honoka returns to the First High tent and meets with Amy and Shizuku. They ask for help with Nanami and Subaru who are depressed and the three cheer them up since they both did well enough to earn points. Miyuki arrives and the girls discuss the mornings results and Amy who is struggling to sleep. Everyone’s ready to see Miyuki’s first match in Ice Pillar Break.
Miyuki’s first match is the first of the afternoon and the entire audience is awed at the sight of Miyuki in a shrine maiden outfit. The match begins and Miyuki launches Inferno in an instant completely overwhelming her opponent scoring a flawless victory.
Bonus Chapter 1 – Flashback to last year where Shizuku meets Mari’s boyfriend in the audience of the Nine Schools Competition.
Bonus Chapter 2 – Honoka tries asking Tatsuya out before the competition and seeks advice.
Miyuki’s overwhelming victory is praised by the commentators and upon hearing the that she used Inferno George becomes suspicious and realises her engineer is Tatsuya.
Third High’s Tsukushiin meets up with Kanou and Isshiki and she comments she’d like to go up against Miyuki since she’s at such a high level. Isshiki agrees and points out with the restrictions in the competition its possible to beat even the strongest magicians. Kanou is inspired by the talk and resolves to win her next match.
Amy is feeling intimidated by Miyuki and thinks back to her practice with Tatsuya before the competition and trying the spell Tatsuya made for her to use. She starts getting fired up until Honoka arrives and tells her that Kanou is in her tournament block.
Amy wins her next match at the same time as Kanou meaning they’ll face off tomorrow in their blocks final match.
Afterwards the competitors from First High gather for a meal and the freshman girls congratulate Miyuki, Shizuku and Amy on their wins and discuss the impact of Tatsuya’s engineering skills. This upsets the boys, especially Morisaki who storms out.
On the way out, they bump into Third High and Isshiki apologises to Miyuki and after acknowledging Miyuki’s strength she declares she will defeat Miyuki and Third High will win. Miyuki accepts her challenge. Amy is inspired by the display but is too excited to sleep.
Next day Amy and Kanou face off in the final match of their tournament block in Ice Pillar Break. As the match begins Amy gets a head start by launching one of her own pillars into Kanou’s destroying three pillars in a single shot.
Amy and Kanou continue their match. Amy launches a second pillar but Kanou reveals a surprise tactic which causes her pillars to slide together rather than break. Amy is shocked and freezes up allowing Kanou to turn the tables using her mid-air vibration magic.
Kanou thinks back to earlier in the morning and the promise she made to Isshiki whist Amy has a flashback to her childhood and something her grandmother told her.
As the match continues Amy is still standing stunned. Kichijouji is feeling confident in Third High’s victory whilst Tatsuya looks on.
In the audience Mizuo talks to a worried Isshiki about Kanou. Isshiki says she was happy to hear Kanou’s earlier declaration to work harder, but she wishes Kanou would do it for herself, not her.
The match continues and Kanou destroys another two pillars leaving Amy down to four. Amy struggles to motivate herself given that she has no chance against Shizuku or Miyuki. She unconsciously charges her psions and launches a pillar into Kanou’s destroying another three in a single shot. Amy is stunned and thinks back to what her grandmother said again, that magic makes lies into reality. She uses this to launch a fourth pillar and despite her Kanou’s attempt to protect her pillars Amy destroys another three with her pillar.
In the audience Subaru comments to Nanami that Amy has a bad habit of unconsciously losing games in a balanced way to let off the gas. Amy now has two pillars remaining against Kanou’s three. Kanou realises she miscalculated Amy’s strength when Amy suddenly collapses.
Amy has fallen to one knee, having reached the limit of her stamina. Kanou resumes her attack to destroy Amy’s last two pillars. Amy manages to move here pillars out of the spells focal points forcing Kanou to keep relaunching her spell.
Staying on the defensive isn’t an option but Tatsuya explains to Mayumi that as Kanou’s remaining pillars are all together they can’t be smashed like before, so it all comes down to Amy’s ability to use magic to rewrite reality.
Amy’s pillars are getting warn down by Kanou’s spells despite the invasion when one suddenly launches at Kanou’s pillars as Amy pours all her remaining power into one last attack. Kanou switches to defence and focus’s her power to protect the pillars. All three pillars break leaving Amy the winner, but both contestants collapse from exhaustion.
After the match Kanou wakes in the infirmary to find Isshiki waiting for her to wake. Kanou apologises for losing and resolves to learn from this experience. Isshiki resolves to win Mirage Bat.
Over at First High’s tent Amy returns from the infirmary still exhausted. Tatsuya scolds her for not sleeping properly when she was competing. Mayumi arrives and informs Miyuki, Shizuku and Amy since they all reached the finals the organisers have offered to cancel the matches and let them share the win. Amy agrees as she needed to withdraw anyway but Shizuku objects.
Shizuku requests to battle Miyuki in an official match. Shizuku thinks back to her training with Tatsuya two weeks before the competition. Her resonance and information boost were enough to overpower two opponents simultaneously, but she tells Tatsuya she didn’t feel it was enough to face Miyuki.
Tatsuya gives her the sequence for Phonon Maser but it’s too tiring, so Tatsuya suggests using a specialised CAD which gives better results with less drain on her stamina. Shizuku is confused about the specialised CAD but Tatsuya explains she’ll use it with her generalised model and explains how to use two CADs at the same time as this is the only way she’ll be able to compete with Miyuki.
Later that day Tatsuya returns home to Miyuki and agrees to supervise her training after dinner. Miyuki gets off to a good start but due to threating over the time Tatsuya is spending with other girls, she loses control of her psions and Tatsuya has to step in. Miyuki admits it was because of the time he’s spending training with the others, so Tatsuya reassures her and warns her not to give openings like that at the competition. He warns her Shizuku wants to seriously fight Miyuki and that he’ll help her do so however he can so Miyuki will have to compete seriously to win. With this memory in mind, Miyuki agrees to the match with Shizuku.
Honoka tells Shizuku she is surprised by how much Shizuku wanted to battle Miyuki. Shizuku tells her they were like frogs in a well at home with no rivals but at the entrance ceremony her ego was shattered by Miyuki and she doesn’t want to miss this opportunity to fight her full out.
Later on, it’s time for Honoka and Tsukushiin to participate in the Battle Board final. Honoka thinks back to her discussion with Tatsuya about Tsukushiin’s spirit magic. The race begins and Honoka turns the surface of the water into a mirror to block Tsukushiin’s spells and take an early lead. Predicting Honoka would take advantage of Spirit Magics slower activation time she traps the path ahead of Honoka’s area interference with whirlpools.
Honoka is prepared for the whirlpools and uses a spell to glide over the surface of the water, avoiding the currents. Tsukushiin uses more spirit magic to lay hidden traps to stop Honoka but thanks to Tatsuya’s warning she hammers them out using her own magic.
In the audience Mizuo realised Honoka is a light elemental like her. Tsukushiin reaches the same conclusion and is elated to have such a strong opponent. As Honoka reaches the waterfall she sees the field has been swamped with traps but on countering realises Tsukushiin is using dummy traps to wear her out.
Honoka manages to figure out how to distinguish the dummies and spirit traps but as they make a turn Honoka has to jump one of Tsukushiin’s whirlpools allowing Tsukushiin to overtake Honoka. As she pulls into the lead Tsukushiin pulls out a second CAD.
Having pulled into the lead Tsukushiin used modern magic to accelerate and gain a lead on Honoka. Tsukushiin then uses her spirit magic to hamper Honoka who starts struggling to move giving her a lead of half a lap.
Tsukushiin launches large scale waves next to insure her victory but Honoka thinking back to Tatsuya’s advice uses her skills with an SS Board to ride the waves using acrobatic moves and rapidly picks up speed, gaining on Tsukushiin.
Tsukushiin launches another series of waves likened to those of a storm but Honoka once again rides through them leaving them almost neck and neck as they enter the final loop. Realising her spells won’t work here Tsukushiin aims for the inside track when Honoka suddenly overtakes her.
Tsukushiin is shocked as Honoka overtakes her but quickly realised she was too focused on speed and was tricked by Honoka using the same shadow spell she used in the semi-final allowing Honoka to win the match.
Tatsuya is with Mari and Mayumi in the audience of the stadium which is utterly packed with people wanting to watch Shizuku and Miyuki face off in the Ice Pillar Break final. As the pair take Miyuki’s thoughts are on Tatsuya whilst Shizuku is focusing on the Miyuki the match ahead.
Isshiki is in the audience to gather information for her match against Miyuki. Ichijou and Kichijouji are also here to watch to see Tatsuya’s engineering skills but Ichijou’s mind wanders to their previous encounter and Miyuki.
The match begins, and Miyuki launches Inferno whilst Shizuku launches Resonance Disruption and Information Boost. Inferno locks out Shizuku’s attack but despite the defence stopping Inferno heating her pillars the air is still affected causing the pillars to begin melting. As Miyuki gains the advantage Shizuku pulls out a specialised CAD from her sleeve.
The audience is shocked Shizuku is using a second CAD and that it seems to be another special variant. Miyuki is jealous Shizuku learned Tatsuya’s duel wielding CAD technique.
Shizuku launches Phonon Maser and manages to damage one of Miyuki’s pillars. The first time anyone could in the tournament. Tatsuya realises two weeks wasn’t enough time to master the spell and as such just compensating with technology isn’t enough. Miyuki is impressed by Shizuku’s resolve and resolves to fight in earnest and begins charging psions.
Shizuku realises Miyuki is about to counter attack from her stance as she launches her spell. Initially the audience is confused as the heat from Shizuku’s attack suddenly disappears until the announcer tells them it was overwhelmed by Miyuki’s spell Niflhiem.
Tatsuya reflects on how much Miyuki has improved as Shizuku tries to block with information boost. Miyuki turns Niflhiem’s power to maximum creating a liquid nitrogen fog as the cold overwhelms the barriers causing even the audience to feel the cold.
The fog suddenly disappears and Shizuku thinks she withstood the attack until she sees her pillars are coated in liquid nitrogen. Miyuki relaunches Inferno, igniting the nitrogen causing all twelve pillars to explode in an instant leaving the audience dumbfounded.
Honoka goes to see Shizuku in their room. Shizuku congratulates Honoka on her win but Honoka realises she’s putting on a brave face and pulls Shizuku into a hug so that she’ll open up. Shizuku admits she knew she’d lose but is upset because of how she was completely shut out.
They decide to get some tea and head down to the restaurant where they bump into the Shiba’s. They congratulate Honoka and Shizuku asks to join them. Tatsuya orders cake as a treat for their wins. Tatsuya apologises for asking Shizuku to master Phonon Maser in two weeks but Shizuku states if not for that she couldn’t have counterattacked. Miyuki comments she was impressed by Shizuku’s spells and having used two CAD’s.
Amy, Subaru and Miyuki gather in Honoka and Shizuku’s room to have a little celebration in honour of the finalists. Subaru is looking forwards to getting to work with Tatsuya in Mirage Bat. Whilst the other girls frolic Miyuki reflects on the situation and is glad Tatsuya came to First High were so many appreciate him, even if their family, the Yotsuba, do not.
The Mirage Bat qualifiers for the rookie competition begin and Subaru competes for First High. Isshiki is watching in the audience and notices how much cleaner her movements are with Tatsuya as the engineer. The match ends with Subaru’s victory.
In Honoka match her affinity for light gives her an advantage detecting the holograms early. After Honoka wins Tatsuya orders them to rest for the final and retires to his room.
The First High Boys team are about to start their second match in Monolith Code when the building suddenly collapses on the contestants as the match is beginning. Everyone is shocked but Mayumi takes charge and takes Juumonji to see what’s happening. In the hospital after confirming there is no permanent damage Mayumi and Juumonji decide to talk to Tatsuya about the ‘accidents.’
Back at First Highs tent Mayumi takes Tatsuya to one side to talk privately. Honoka and Subaru arrive and are informed about what happened but when Honoka notices Tatsuya’s absence she and Miyuki start worrying about what Mayumi wanted.
Tatsuya and Mayumi return and Tatsuya resumes his engineering work for Mirage Bat, giving Subaru advice for the final. Seeing him unfazed boosts the post-accident other members of First High.
The final rookie match of the Mirage Bat competition takes place and Subaru and Honoka dominate the match, thanks to the advantage of Tatsuya’s engineering skills. Azusa overhears someone comment it’s like their engineer is Taurus Silver himself and thinking back on everything and begins to suspect Tatsuya might actually be him. The match ends with First High taking both top spots in the final.
After the match Tatsuya is pulled to one side by Mayumi and the other leaders of First High’s team. They ask Tatsuya to replace the injured players in Monolith Code. Tatsuya objects but Juumonji pressures Tatsuya into competing and Tatsuya reluctantly agrees. He requests Leo and Mikihiko be his teammates.
Azusa is charged with acquiring the uniforms and equipment for the substitute team. She delivers the equipment and notices Tatsuya is adjusting the CADs. Tatsuya asks for help with the grammar checks but when Azusa reads the sequences she is shocked by the quality of the work, far beyond her skills, leaving her convinced Tatsuya is Taurus Silver.
Tatsuya, Mikihiko and Leo are read for their first match in Monolith Code, but the students from First High are confused by the line-up. Ichijou and Kichijouji are there in the audience to observe Tatsuya’s abilities first hand.
The match begins and despite the forest terrain, Tatsuya reaches the enemy camp with shocking speed without using magic. He enters combat with the defending player from Eighth High and shocks the audience when he uses Program Demolition. The skirmish ends with Tatsuya opening Eighth High’s monolith.
The match continues as Tatsuya surprises everyone by withdrawing from the enemy monolith. A player from Eighth High reaches First High’s Monolith but is stopped by Leo who uses the Mini-communicator to launch a surprise attack and knocks them out.
Meanwhile Mikihiko has the third Eighth High player trapped under the influence of the spell Echoing Labyrinth which is preventing them from finding First High’s monolith.
Tatsuya leads Eighth High’s away from the Monolith and uses magic to jump into a tree to lure them into position for an ambush. After shooting the unsuspecting player in the back, Tatsuya rushes back to the Monolith and enters the code, winning the match.
After the match Ichijou and Kichijouji discuss Tatsuya and how his combat skills seem to be more of a threat than his weak magic so in a head to head fight, Ichijou will have the advantage.
Ichijou notices Miyuki passing by with Tatsuya and hatches a plan to woo Miyuki. Miyuki and Tatsuya decide to retire for the time being due to the unwanted attention on Miyuki when they bump into Erika who is arguing with her brother.
Tatsuya and his teammates watch Third Highs semi-final match to get an idea of the abilities of Ichijou and his teammates. The match begins and Ichijou besides to win using overwhelming power and marches out towards Eighth High’s monolith using ‘Interference Armour’ to block all attacking spells. Tatsuya notes the method is very similar to that of Juumonji.
Eighth Highs vanguard player realises attacking Ichijou is futile and attempts to flank but is immediately knocked out by a spell from Ichijou. Tatsuya realises he’s using ‘Deviation Release’ to lower the lethality of his attacks. Ichijou reaches Eighth Highs monolith and the defenders launch simultaneous high-level spells in an attempt to stop Ichijou but his ‘Interference Armour’ is too strong and Ichijou counter attacks leaving Eighth Highs entire team incapacitated and ending the match.
After the match Juumonji tells Mayumi Tatsuya was being provoked into a head on match whilst Tatsuya tells his team about Kichijouji who will likely use ‘Invisible Bullet’ in the final match.
First High’s semi final ends with an easy win and afterwards Tatsuya is stretching to warm up for the final when Miyuki comes to encourage him by telling him she believes he won’t lose even with his power restricted. Miyuki rushes off embarrassed and Tatsuya decides he cannot lose the final.
Yotsuba Maya discusses the competition with her personal butler and is confident Tatsuya will win the final. She comments despite all the limitations on Tatsuya, and the people watching, he will grant any wish Miyuki’s makes, even if it means risking his life.
Third High are celebrating that the final is on the grasslands stage where Ichijou has a clear advantage. Isshiki is rooting for Ichijou as although the Isshiki and Ichijou are rivals as families it matters not in school. She is confident Ichijou as a member of the Ten Master Clans will win and prepares to step up herself.
First High are worried that Ichijou is favoured by the field but Tatsuya has a plan and is confident as the lack of water on the stage is beneficial. In the audience Honoka is really worried and Shizuku calms her. Miyuki is calm and looks on as the Monolith Code final is set to begin.
The Monolith Code final begins, and the audience is treated to a spectacular magical artillery battle despite the starting positions being six hundred meters apart. Ichijou launches attack after attack using ‘Interference Armour’ for defence whilst Tatsuya uses ‘Program Demolition’ to stop Ichijou’s attacks with his right hand C.A.D. whilst attacking with his left. As the battle between the closing titans continues as Tatsuya is forced to go on the defensive the closer they get to one another.
Kichijouji follows the plan and heads out to flank Tatsuya and attack the Monolith but is stopped by Leo. Kichijouji tries to use ‘Invisible Bullet’ but Leo uses his mantle to block the spell and attacks. Kichijouji dodges and is caught by Mikihiko’s spirit magic, leaving Kichijouji open. Leo attacks again but just before his attack lands and takes Kichijouji out Leo is blown over by a surprise attack from Ichijou. This allows Kichijouji to counter Mikihiko with weight type magic and pin him to the ground.
Ichijou returns his attention to Tatsuya to find he has closed to within 5 meters in an instant and closed the gap. In a panic Ichijou fires off sixteen attack spells but forgets to adjust them, leaving them well over the legal output for the competition.
Tatsuya realises Ichijou’s spell is overpowered and cancels out as many as he can but takes two hits and is blown towards Ichijou by the force of the blast. Everyone thinks Tatsuya was taken out, but his ‘Regrowth’ activates, and he gets back up uninjured.
Miyuki reflects on the fact Tatsuya would have felt an intense amount of pain and the fact Tatsuya could have blocked the spell with ‘Program Dispersion’ but couldn’t as it’s a military secret.
Ichijou is shocked that Tatsuya is getting up and leaves himself open, allowing Tatsuya to close and use a sound amplification spell right next to Ichijou’s ear. As Kichijouji opens his eyes after the spell ends to see Ichijou fall.
Masaki is down and Tatsuya drops to one knee, leaving the rest to Leo and Mikihiko. Kichijouji is shocked Ichijou was defeated and barely dodges Mikihiko’s next attack. Mikihiko then launches a sequence of spells to lure Kichijouji into position and takes him out with a lightning strike. Third High’s remaining player tried to take out Mikihiko but is blocked and taken out by Leo, ending the match.
First High has won, and everyone is shocked by the result. The audience have mixed feelings about the result but when Miyuki’s tears of joy are shown on the screen the crowd launches into a thunderous applause. Isshiki is concerned that there will be trouble since this was supposed to be a stage for the Ten Master Clans to demonstrate their strength. Looking on Yotsuba Maya and Kudou Retsu are pleased by the result.
It's day nine of the Nine School Competition and Tatsuya is preparing for Miyuki’s match in Mirage Bat. People are concerned Tatsuya may be overdoing it due to his injury, though it's secretly been healed, and Miyuki is happy that she can monopolise Tatsuya as her engineer.
First High’s Hirakawa Koharu and Kobayakawa Keiko are also preparing for their matches. Kobayakawa is a little nervous of the Shibas but is encouraged by Hirakawa.
Isshiki is on the roof waiting for her match. Mizuo arrives to talk and comments that meeting expectations is the hardest part. They agree to do their best in the upcoming match.
Elsewhere the leadership of the no head dragon are getting desperate and decide to take more direct measures to prevent First High’s victory, even if it means killing.
Back at the competition Tatsuya tells Miyuki he is concerned the gloomy weather foreshadows further sabotage and promises to protect Miyuki no matter what.
The first Mirage Bat match of the day begins and First High’s Kobayakawa is fired up for the match. The match begins but partway through Kobayakawa’s magic fails and she falls out of the sky. She is caught by the magic of one of the event staff members and is removed. Tatsuya tells Miyuki that the shock will likely end Kobayakawa's life as a magician.
Mizuki, who had been watching for tampering informs Tatsuya that just before the accident Kobayakawa’s CAD sparked as though Spirit Magic was bursting from the CAD and caused it to malfunction.
Tatsuya takes Miyuki’s CAD for inspection and catches the saboteur tampering with it. Before Tatsuya can harm the saboteur Kudou Retsu arrives and Kudou confirms the CAD was tampered with using a technique used by the Cantonese Army.
Afterwards Tatsuya returns to First High where people have already heard about him getting violent. Miyuki is upset because she knows he got angry for her sake. Mayumi makes a joke to improve the mood in the tent. Tatsuya then explains about the Saboteur. Azusa is shocked but Hirakawa is crushed that she didn’t notice.
Isshiki, Kanou and Tsukushiin are in their ready room and discuss the incident of Tatsuya getting violent and suspect it might be due to all the accidents. Mizuo and Isshiki are ready for their matches and confident their training and jumping techniques will pay off.
Miyuki takes the stage for her match and the audience is awed. Mizuo however isn’t fazed. The match begins and both get to a good start and seem well matched.
Between Miyuki’s raw power and Mizuo’s skilful technique the other participants cannot compete against them but neither has a decisive lead. Miyuki is determined to win and asks Tatsuya if she can switch CAD’s for the final round.
The final round of the qualifier begins, and Miyuki uses Flight Magic which shocks the other competitors and the audience alike. Isshiki is shocked they’d do something dangerous like use newly released magic but quickly realised Miyuki is using it skilfully. Miyuki dominates the final round of the match and wins.
Isshiki is impressed by Miyuki’s performance and as a result, she is even more determined to win her match and heads to the field. As Isshiki passes her Mizuo apologises for failing to win.
At First Highs tent everyone is talking about the flight magic. Azusa is struggling to comprehend Tatsuya and realises she wouldn’t be able to cope in Hirakawa’s position and questions the purpose of the grades and sperate courses. Mayumi reassures her by pointing out that the technical side isn’t represented by the main grades. She goes on too explain two courses only exist due to the lack of teachers and that the truth is the uniforms are only different due to an administration error when the number of students doubled. They agree to never tell Miyuki the truth.
Miyuki is reflecting on the successful unveiling of Tatsuya’s Flight Magic when she overhears a committee member requesting to see Miyuki’s CAD. The other schools raised suspicions about cheating due to the Flight Magic being new technology. Miyuki is confident there is no cause for concern.
Upon hearing of Miyuki’s victory, the No head Dragon order Generator 17 to massacre the audience, but they are intercepted.
After having munch together Tatsuya asks Miyuki if there is anything that he can do to help her prepare for the final. Miyuki requests he watch over her as she takes a nap to rest for the final. Whilst Tatsuya watches Miyuki sleep, he thinks about the attempted massacre that Fujibayashi and Yanagi stopped and decides to take action for what has transpired.
In her sleep Miyuki’s mind goes from the first time she used Flight Magic to the say they delivered it to FTL where Ushiyama tells them that even normal magicians are getting results and not just Miyuki. On the way out they encounter Aoki, one of the Yotsuba butlers who praises Miyuki as a succession candidate but refuses to acknowledge Tatsuya, a mere body guard.
Isshiki is participating in her qualifier for Mirage Bat. Despite her technique only using magic to jump the other contestants are struggling to compete with her speed and skill. Kanou affirms Isshiki is doing well in the match but Isshiki’s mind is already looking to the final. She goes on to have a decisive win and advances.
After the match Isshiki reviews recordings of her and Miyuki’s matches to plan her strategy for the final. Some of her teammates arrive with the Flight Magic program and tell Isshiki to use the sequence. Kanou objects pointing out that from the technical side they shouldn’t use magic they are unfamiliar with. They are told that the sequence from First High was leaked to all the schools by the committee. Isshiki tells to Kanou to make the adjustments.
Kanou and Isshiki head outside to test the Flight Magic. Isshiki finds the spell is very easy to use and is confident she can compete in the final using the flight magic. Mizuo arrives and objects, pointing out that Miyuki has practised and is very skilled with the magic, and has taken to it like a fish to water. Isshiki points out all the schools are using flight magic so there is no choice. Mizuo insists Isshiki will have a better chance using magic to leap. Kanou is conflicted and knows how much pressure Isshiki is under to win. Isshiki agrees to think it over and asks Kanou if she can use both but Kanou warns it will be very draining to use both. Isshiki pushes and Kanou programs a new CAD that will incorporate a jumping spell with Flight Magic.
Later, while waiting for the final, she thinks back to the call she received from her uncle yesterday and how he wants her to show the prowess of the Isshiki Family to the Ten Master Clans following Ichijou’s defeat and her reasons to compete.
The Mirage Bat final is about to begin, and Miyuki confirms she is well rested and requests to use Flight Magic from the onset. Tatsuya agrees. Azusa and Mayumi notice Miyuki is in a good mood and Tatsuya advises then she got a decent amount of sleep. Azusa asks where she slept and Tatsuya wonders if she knows he and Miyuki were together but is saved by the match beginning.
The audience is shocked when all six contestants use Flight Magic. Tatsuya explains to Miyuki that the committee must have leaked the sequence to the other schools. Mayumi is appalled they would put winning before the safety of the participants. Tatsuya is unfazed and advises so long as they use his sequence then there is a safety feature built in.
Isshiki, upon seeing the other schools all using Flight Magic decides she made the correct decision in switching as well.
Miyuki is dominating the match and keeps scoring whilst the other participants cannot keep up. Miyuki is determined to show off Tatsuya’s magic and dedicate the victory to him.
Two of the other contestants exhaust their Psions and are brought safely to the ground by the Flight Magic’s built in safety feature.
Isshiki is still in the match but is getting demoralised by Miyuki’s overwhelming ability but upon seeing her Mother in the audience gets a second wind and tries the combination of Jumping Magic and Flight Magic, allowing her to steal a point from Miyuki.
Having found her second wind Isshiki scores her first point. Honoka in the audience is worried but Shizuku thinks things will get interesting from this point on. Tatsuya isn’t worried and advises Miyuki to fly freely to the fullest.
Third High’s Kanou complements Isshiki’s performance but Isshiki knows she cannot reverse the scores to win at this point.
The final round begins and Isshiki is determined to give her all for prides sake. Kanou realises Isshiki has been growing with every round. It looks like Isshiki will take the first point, but Miyuki steals it with a fluid movement. Shizuku is amazed by Miyuki’s skill and how she doesn’t seem rushed at all. The audience is mesmerised by how Miyuki transitions from flying around to dancing through the air.
The Mirage Bat final continues, and the crowd are awed by Miyuki’s technique as Yotsuba Maya watches on from home with amusement, knowing the impact recordings of this match will have globally.
Isshiki Airi is struggling to keep going as the other contestant from Second High is brought down to the ground and falls to her knees in exhaustion. Tatsuya watches on but is unconcerned as the difference between Miyuki and Isshiki is too great as Isshiki is already showing fatigue.
Miyuki continues competing, determined to show off her brother's magic to the world and silently dedicates her impending victory to him as Isshiki’s stamina finally gives out and she falls to the ground. With Isshiki out of the match Miyuki wins the final but Kanou is surprised to see Isshiki subtly laughing despite losing.
Miyuki’s victory secures First Highs overall win in the Nine Schools Competition and Mayumi and the others from First High are ecstatic with Miyuki’s victory. All except Tatsuya whose mind is already moving on to the final remaining problem.
That evening the leaders of the eastern branch of the No Head Dragon Syndicate are in a panic as they come under attack from an unknown assailant. A call comes through to the room as Tatsuya advises them that he’s come to return the favour for their actions at Mount Fuji as he takes aim with his CAD.
First High’s team has gathered to celebrate their complete victory in the 9 Schools Competition, even Erika and Mizuki have been invited. The gang quickly notice Tatsuya’s absence and Miyuki tells them he was tired and is resting.
Time flashes back to Miyuki’s discussion with Tatsuya, as he was leaving and she wished him luck. Tatsuya then meets with Ono Haruka Sensei to purchase intel and then gets into a car with Lt Fujibayashi and the pair head towards Yokohama.
Back in the present Isshiki Airi is practicing her magic outside with Kanou and Tsukushiin. Rather than wallow in her defeat, Isshiki is already moving forwards and takes to the skies to master flight magic, much to the satisfaction of her Senpai and friends looking on.
In Tokyo, Tatsuya and Fujibayashi discuss the situation before heading up to the roof of Yokohama Tower. In the No Head Dragon HQ, the leaders are gathering their valuables in a panic when suddenly a giant hole appears in the wall and one of the men disintegrates. The phone rings and is answered by one of the men, and Tatsuya thanks them for Fuji as he disintegrates another of the men.
The leaders of the No Head Dragon branch are in a panic as one of the remaining Generators points out Tatsuya’s location to them. One tries to use a sniper rifle, but the lens is shattered with magic and the remaining Generators are disintegrated along with two of the syndicate members. Tatsuya then pressures Douglas Huang into giving up intel on the syndicate’s international leadership. Killing the third syndicate member makes Huang submit and he gives up the syndicate’s leader. Tatsuya then kills the fourth syndicate member, to Huang’s shock, due to them targeting Miyuki. As Tatsuya kills Huang, the final syndicate member, Huang realised Tatsuya’s spell is ‘The Demon’s Right,’ from Okinawa.
First Highs celebratory gathering is ending and Honoka suggests she, Shizuku and Miyuki head to the communal bath, although Miyuki isn’t very enthusiastic. There they bump into Isshiki, Kanou and Tsukushiin from Third High.
The six head into the bath, but the atmosphere is strained due to the awkwardness of having just been competing against one another. Tsukushiin decides to clear the air and makes an effort talk to Honoka and takes the lead in having the two groups mingle. Tsukushiin brings up the Flight Magic and asks why Honoka didn’t use it, too which is points out she wasn’t allowed.
Observing the pair is Shizuku who is joined by Kanou in the bath. She notices Shizuku seems a little lonely, leading to them discussing the pairs friendship and ending with Shizuku’s embarrassment. Isshiki sees her friends mingling and looks over at Miyuki, the only one alone and who looks very gloomy.
Isshiki asks Miyuki if she can join her, despite knowing it may be awkward. She then opens up to Miyuki and tells her she’s been practicing flight magic, initially just to compete but as now gotten really into the magic and feels she’s had a new world opened before her, despite expecting to just feel crushed, and it’s all thanks to Miyuki. This leaves Miyuki perplexed as all she was thinking about was winning to show off Tatsuya’s magic and impress him and has subsequently been polite to avoid hurting people’s feelings. Isshiki however, has realized Miyuki is feeling awkward as she’s so powerful she’s likely never lost before and needs to know there is a bright side to losing too. Isshiki conveys her thanks and Miyuki returns the thanks by pointing out that thanks to Isshiki’s own skill she too was able to benefit. They end with a declaration to do better next year while the other four, led by Touko, enjoy the hot spring.
Later that evening Tatsuya returns to the hotel to be greeted by Miyuki, who jumps down to meet him.
It’s the night before the final matches of the Nine Schools Competition and Honoka is struggling to sleep as she’s trying to figure out how to get Tatsuya to ask her to dance at the evening party.
The following morning, she asks Shizuku, who resolves to help her friend and suggests making use of the fact Tatsuya is now free of his engineering duties to strike up conversation and make an opportunity for him to ask her, however Shizuku is worried about how Miyuki will react.
During the matches Honoka is sitting next to Tatsuya but gets lost in his commentary so forgets to ask. Realising after the match she tried to incite him to lunch but Miyuki is present, so they end up going as a group of four, with Shizuku suggesting they eat Japanese sweets.
Honoka doesn’t want to ask Tatsuya in front of Miyuki, so as the four eat lunch Honoka asks about his plans for the day to which Tatsuya states he’ll be spending it with Miyuki as they haven’t been able to spend much time together during the competition (a fact the other two strongly contest in their heads). Shizuku makes a push and asks him directly if he has a date for the party, but Tatsuya says it’d be too much hassle, which causes Honoka to lose her composure as she objects, tipping off Miyuki as to her objective.
The 2095 Nine Schools Completion closing ceremony is concluded with the respective competitors receiving their rewards and things quickly move on the evening party. Honoka is trying to get Tatsuya to ask her to dance but seeing he’s with Miyuki, she sees no opening, although Shizuku is trying to think of a plan to assist her. Meanwhile Ichijou Masaki is talking to the Shiba’s and asks Miyuki to dance and is shocked to discover that she and Tatsuya are siblings, the fact they don’t appear to be pleasing Miyuki. Tatsuya then asks Honoka to dance. Honoka is elated and the two head to the dance floor while Miyuki dances with Ichijou, her eyes on Tatsuya the entire time.
Masaki thinks dancing with Miyuki is like a dream and she’s a goddess and can’t believe Tatsuya is her brother when they look nothing alike. Regretting his rude behaviour towards him previously and decides to be more polite towards him in future. The dance ends and Masaki tried to talk to Miyuki, but the pair are quickly inundated with other dance offers from other students, separating the two.
Watching on while dancing Mayumi notes how popular Miyuki is and tries to tease Tatsuya, suggesting marriage, but Tatsuya points out he isn’t qualified to marry the Saegusa’s eldest daughter. Mayumi thanks him for helping her. While dancing Mayumi thinks back to her conversation with Juumonji earlier about the Shiba’s showing up the Ten Master Clans.
Meanwhile Kanou Shiori and Tsukushiin Touko are talking to Shizuku while Isshiki Airi watches from the dancefloor.
Mari drags Tatsuya onto the dancefloor again as Miyuki watches on worrying about how many girls want to dance with him, looking for an opportunity to dance with Tatsuya but can’t find an opportunity when she sees Juumonji talking to Tatsuya.
After teasing Mikihiko and Mizuki in the kitchen, Erika is serving on drinks at the banquet. Whilst avoiding Mari she spots Tatsuya leaving with Juumonji.
Meanwhile Mayumi watches Tatsuya and Juumonji leave and reflecting on her earlier conversation with Juumonji over Tatsuya beating Ichijou. Mari joins her and they casually discuss Tatsuya.
Elsewhere Airi is chatting with Mizuo and the two are reflecting on how wide the world is and how they have grown.
On the dance floor Honoka finishes a dance and is looking for Tatsuya whilst Miyuki is distracted but cannot find him, when she bumps into Erika.
(Note: The manga skips chapters 78 and 79.
Thinking Erika might know, Honoka asks her where Tatsuya is. Erika reports he went outside with Juumonji. Honoka calls for Miyuki, who uses it as an excuse to excuse herself from the boys and Honoka thanks her for earlier. Realising the party is nearly over Miyuki looks around for Tatsuya and Erika directs her outside to the courtyard.
Meanwhile Masaki and George are chatting, and the conversation turns to Tatsuya in Monolith Code and Masaki asks if George knew he was Miyuki’s elder brother. This shocks George who knew but pretends he didn’t, too Masaki’s delight as he uses the excuse they don’t look alike. This makes George think back to Sado and what attracts him to Masaki (but not in a romantic sense).
