Gekijouban Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei: Hoshi o Yobu Shojo (劇場版 魔法科高校の劣等生 星を呼ぶ少女) is a manga based on the movie The Irregular at Magic High School The Movie: The Girl Who Summons the Stars. The adaptation is by Pinakes (ピナケス). It was serialized in Dengeki Daioh from July 2017, and ran for 12 chapters until June 2018.

The seasons have changed and it will soon be the second spring. Shiba Tatsuya and Shiba Miyuki have finished their first year at First High School are on holiday during spring break with their school friends. They go to Shizuku's villa on the Ogasawara Island archipelago. After only a small moment of peace, a lone young girl named Watatsumi Kokoa appears before them and asks for help.

Prologue

The 26th of March 2096. Sailing 160km off the coast of Minami-tateshima is the Diakoku, a Japanese Navy Missile Ship. Onboard an experiment is about to begin using the Watatsumi Series. The young girls are placed into a giant machine and their psion waves are synchronised and begin to launch a giant magical sequence. The Hainan, a submarine belonging to the Great Asian Union is observing the ship and on approach while a lone magician in a flight suit and sword flies towards them. As the scientists aboard the launch the spell ‘Meteor Fall’ the flying soldier dives into the water and cuts the submarine in two with his sword, sinking it, before returning to the air. The flying solider returns to the New Mexico, a USNA nuclear submarine where the giant pillar of light from the Diakoku can be seen in the distance which he recognises as a relic of the great war.

Chapter 1

The 27th of March 2096. Angelina Kudou Shields has just returned to the USNA and is met by Silvia at Albuquerque Airport. After exchanging greetings Silvia hands Lina a ticket to Honolulu and tells her she has a mission. Despite Lina’s objections she is ushered to the plane to Hawaii. The following day Tatsuya and Miyuki are enjoying a pleasant drink on the private island owned by Shizuku’s family whilst Leo, Mikihiko, Erika and Mizuki are playing on the beach where Mizuki is trying to smash a watermelon. Erika gets impatient and takes over, splitting the melon with magic. Shizuku and Honoka join the Shiba’s and Shizuku thanks them for joining them on the trip when the group hear a jet engine approaching and see an aeroplane belonging to the Japanese Military on approach. Inside Tatsuya reads a letter and tells Miyuki he has a mission requiring the use of Material Burst and that their aunt has approved the mission. Tatsuya kneels and Miyuki releases his seal by kissing his forehead. At the army base Tatsuya meets with Major Kazuma and Sanada who explain the mission is to destroy the asteroid 2095GE9 which has had its course altered and is on a collision course with the earth and has a 90% chance of making landfall on or near Kyushu. Tatsuya suits up and casts Material Burst, a spell which converts mass directly into energy, to destroy the asteroid. Meanwhile the researchers responsible for altering the course of the asteroid observe its destruction and the head researcher Kanemaru decides the experiment was successful enough to move to the next stage which is to target the USNA’s nuclear satellite Seventh Plague on the 30th of march. Another researcher, Morinaga, objects to the plan saying the girls being removed from the CAD need longer to recover. Kanemaru refutes this saying there is insufficient evidence the strain on the girls is severe enough to warrant a delay. Later Morinaga visits one of the girls in their room and kneels to talk to her.

Chapter 2

The 29th of March 2096. Mayumi is woken by an urgent encrypted message arriving on her phone. Shocked by the message’s contents, she wakes Mari who is sharing the hotel room and shows her the message. Erika, Honoka, Leo, Mikihiko, Miyuki, Mizuki and Shizuku all arrive on Minamitateshima and enjoy a leisurely shopping trip. Leo on Mikihiko discuss the base next to the shopping district not knowing a young girl is making her escape from it whilst Mari and Mayumi frantically search the tourist district. Miyuki and friends stop at a café for lunch where Leo and the others quickly notice that something is amiss from all the activity from military personnel and decide to quickly return to Shizuku’s villa. They return to the private jet but as they are about to leave a military jeep pulls up next to them and two soldiers demand to search the plane. Erika opens the hatch and demands an explanation. They advise they are looking for an escaped patient and Erika tells them they are not aboard and coerces the soldiers into backing down and they leave to search another plane. Once the plane takes off Miyuki asks Erika if she had also noticed the stowaway. Erika then heads to the planes toilet where she finds the young girl who was hiding on the plane.

Chapter 3

Mayumi and Mari return to Mayumi’s private jet where the pilot reports soldiers searched the plane before their arrival, but the girl never arrived. She comments there was a second plane present before the search the girl might have boarded by mistake. Mayumi orders them to find the other plane. Shizuku’s plane returns to the island where Tatsuya greets them, and the group gather inside the villa to hear the girl’s story. Erika gently questions the girl and they find out her name is Kokoa, a 14-year-old Watatsumi series artificial magician and that she escaped from the naval base’s research facility. When asked she doesn’t seem to understand what magic and magicians are and was sometimes put into a huge machine. Tatsuya realises and explains she was being used as a component of a Large-scale CAD and wouldn’t be aware of what they were using her for. She further explains the researcher Morinaga told her to escape. Tatsuya tries to question her further but scares her and has to use Miyuki as an intermediary. He confirms there were other Watatsumi series girls being used in parallel in the Cad and that the machine is robbing the girls of their emotions. Everyone is mortified by that they have heard. Kokoa asks for help rescuing the other girls. Tatsuya reminds everyone it means going up against the navy. Everyone else agrees to aid Kokoa and rescue the girls. Later the girls all visit the baths and are further reminded how badly Kokoa has been treated when she reveals she’s never had one before. Meanwhile aboard the New Mexico submarine Lina arrives and briefs her unit on their mission which is to attack and destroy the naval research centre responsible for developing strategic class magic and kill the research staff and research materials.

Chapter 4

Everyone gathers for dinner in Shizuku’s villa where Kokoa is presented after a makeover. She asks for Saegusa Mayumi. Miyuki agrees to send her a message later to tell her about Kokoa. After dinner Miyuki joins Tatsuya outside where they discuss the situation and Tatsuya reveals he’s struggling to be objective due to excessive sympathy towards Kokoa and her situation. Miyuki reassures him its nothing to worry about. Tatsuya resolves to stop the experiments. Next day Tatsuya returns to the mainland where he reports the situation to the Magic Association and meets with Captain Sanada to acquire a Covert-Ops MOVAL Suit and is given two spells to field test should the opportunity arise, Deep Mist Dispersion and Beta Trident. Upon returning to the Villa Tatsuya finds Mayumi and Mai have already arrived. Inside Mayumi introduced herself and Kokoa responds as Watatsumi series number 22, individual name Kokoa. Mayumi apologises for missing her the day before and explains to the others that the researcher Morinaga knows her brother and requested aid in rescuing the girls. Mayumi asks Kokoa to come to Tokyo. Tatsuya interjects and requests everyone bar him be taken as well and to use the Kitiyama jet to rescue the other girls. Mari objects but Mayumi agrees and reminds her anything beyond collecting Kokoa is beyond their purview. Erika, Leo, Mikihiko and Miyuki object and Tatsuya agrees to let them assist him. The others all board Mayumi’s jet and head back to Tokyo.

Chapter 5

On the way to the dock Miyuki asks about Erika’s package and she reveals it’s Mizuchimaru, a smaller scale version of her sword that she smuggled aboard. Tatsuya, Leo and Erika board a boat to head to the base while Mikihiko and Miyuki stay with the plane. On the way to Tokyo Mayumi’s jet is surrounded by three fighters who demand they turn back and land. Mayumi makes an excuse to refuse so the fighters fire a warning shot and threaten to shoot them down. Mayumi responds by using magic to attack all three planes simultaneously and warns them she will shoot them down forcing the fighters to back off. Juumonji Katsuto arrives at the army base as a representative of the magic association. At the islands commercial dock Tatsuya also arrives and he changes into his Covert MOVAL Suit whilst Leo and Erika disguise themselves as MPs. The three confirm the plan and Tatsuya flies towards the base. Meanwhile Lina and her STARS team arrive and deploy in an aquatic APC. The submarine is detected and in response the Japanese navy prepare to open fire. Lina targets the middle missile launcher and casts the Strategic Class Magic Heavy Metal Burst, obliterating the islands ocean defences in a huge explosion.

Chapter 6

Above the base Canopus and Ralph of STARS observe the blast and realising infiltration is no longer an option they prepare to attack. Below them Tatsuya recognises Heavy Metal Burst and realises STARS are present and so quickly moves into the base using Decomposition to open a hole in the wall. Meanwhile the resort is in a panic and as the tourists try to evacuate Leo and Erika close in on the base in their MP disguises. Back at Shizuku’s villa Mikihiko and Miyuki, who were monitoring the island detect the blast and watching it on the screen Miyuki is reminded of Okinawa. Inside the base Tatsuya closes in on the cells and after disabling two guards, destroys the door to find Morinaga who has been detained.

Chapter 7

In Morinaga’s cell Tatsuya confirms Morinaga’s identity and advises he was sent to rescue the other girls. Morinaga pleads with Tatsuya to rescue the girls even if it means abandoning her. Tatsuya her part in the experiment. She explains the reason for the experiments was to create spells greater than those used in Scorched Halloween for the navy. She goes on to say the Watatsumi are pure victims and need saving and agrees to lead Tatsuya to the girls who should be in the middle of an experiment. On route Morinaga confirms that they are responsible for the asteroid 2095GE9 and explains todays experiment is to remove the USNA satellite Seventh Plague from orbit. Tatsuya is shocked by insanity of the Head Researcher for proposing this as the satellite contains 60 tons of depleted uranium and would cause a global disaster if the experiment goes wrong. They reach the control room to find it in chaos. While Tatsuya accesses a console, Morinaga demands an explanation form the head researcher who confirms that the experiment failed and the satellite is falling to earth, he blames the explosion Lina caused and refuses to accept the experiment was floored. Tatsuya destroys the partitioning computer display and jumps down to rescue the girls. Morinaga quickly follows as the other researchers flee. After forcing the scientists to open the giant CAD and neutralising some guards, Tatsuya uses regrowth on the first unconscious girl, Shia and upon waking tells her Kokoa sent him and asks if she wants rescuing. She asks for his help. After healing the other girls, Tatsuya leads then and the carers from Morinaga’s team to the rendezvous point with Leo and Erika and places them in their care. Shia is upset, thinking they’re being abandoned. Tatsuya explains unless he destroys the research more girls will be made to replace them, so he has to go. Upon returning to the Lab Tatsuya coerces the head researcher into giving him the data on Seventh Plague before destroying the research and large-scale CAD.

Chapter 8

Erika and Leo lead the Watatsumi girls and scientists through the base. They hear fighting and tell the others to wait at the base of the ramp while they check ahead. Erika and Leo emerge above ground to see two armoured combatants engaging the Japanese soldiers. One of the Watatsumi girls runs up the ramp and sees the last of the soldiers being killed. The attackers, Canopus and Ralph, see the Watatsumi girls and realise they are the operators of the SCM magic and are execution targets. Leo has Morinaga take the girls back down the ramp whilst he and Erika face off against the two attackers. Leo uses his fortification magic to block Ralphs quick knife attacks but is too slow to deal with his speed. Meanwhile Erika and Canopus engage in a sword fight. Erika pulls back a blow at the last second when her instincts tells her there is something wrong with the sword allowing Canopus to go on the offensive but just as she is about to land a counter he dodges at which point she realises they are STARS members and Canopus realised she is the Chiba swordswoman Lina warned him of. Whilst Erika and Canopus are well matched Leo is struggling and takes a solid kick to the stomach leaving him open to an attack. Just as Ralph is about to land the killing blow, he is hit by a Phalanx shield and smashed into a vehicle. The other combatants to see a fully armoured Juumonji Katsuto has taken the field.

Chapter 9

Juumonji asks for an explanation for Erika and Leos presence. Erika drops her guard struggling for an explanation. Canopus uses the opening to attack and Erika narrowly dodges but her sword is severed as she’s knocked down. Canopus turns on Juumonji and attacks full force but is stopped by the Phalanx. Juumonji attacks with a stream of attack Phalanxes but Canopus destroys them in a flurry leaving the two in a standoff. Ralph recovers from the earlier blow and launches himself at Leo but Erika leaps between them and swings her broken sword. Ralph dodges the blade, but Erika’s spell extended the blade and Ralph is incapacitated. Canopus smashed the ground with magic, launching debris and dust into the air. Juumonji uses Phalanx to protect the Watatsumi, Erika and Leo and himself. As the dust clears Canopus has taken Ralph and escaped. Canopus reports his failure to Lina, and she prepares to destroy the area with Heavy Metal Burst. In orbit the falling Seventh Plague Satellite starts breaking apart, altering its trajectory. On the island’s mountain Tatsuya uses Elemental Sight to calculate the trajectory of the Satellite but he cannot find it and the MOVAL Suit’s scan fails to locate it. He spots Lina about to use Heavy Metal Burst. Seeing the civilians have not evacuated he quickly switches to Deep Mist Dispersion to destroys the APC she targeted causing her spell to fail. He quickly destroys all the research building too. Though somewhat confused, as her mission was technically completed, she withdraws.

Chapter 10

Canopus returns to the New Mexico where an urgent message is received advising that Seventh Plague is falling from orbit and ships in the pacific are to withdraw to Hawaii. The Kitiyama jet arrives at the island and Miyuki surveys the situation and sees both the blazing island and New Mexico off the coast. She orders them closer and opens the hatch before unleashing a spell that extinguishes the blaze caused by Heavy Metal Burst in an instant. She then leaps from the plan to the ground and Mikihiko quickly follows. Upon reaching the ground Miyuki uses her magical senses to find and target the New Mexico before unleashing a large-scale attack freezing the sea around the New Mexico and trapping it in ice. Lina, whose APC was caught in Miyuki’s spell, leaves her vehicle and flies to the New Mexico. Recognising Miyuki’s handiwork, she lands on the submarine and casts Muspelheim to thaw the ship so they can escape. Tatsuya suddenly uses vibration magic to speak with her and tells her about Seventh Plague. Meanwhile Mirfak, the pilot of the amphibious APC, launches an attack on Miyuki’s position but Mikihiko blocks it with the spell Yamata of the Sea. Lina receives confirmation about Seventh Plague. Tatsuya tells her he can stop it but needs her help. She is reluctant but agrees when Tatsuya points out it was her Heavy Metal Burst that’s stopping him from finding the satellite. He then contacts Miyuki, who has just forced Mirfak to flee from battle, and tells her that he is coming to her position and not to attack Lina who will be joining them.

Chapter 11

Tatsuya informs Lina and the others Seventh Plague will impact within 24 hours. He then requests Lina launch him to an altitude of 140km within the next 10 minutes. Lina objects saying that’s outer space. Tatsuya advises her, due to his magic level he’ll only get one shot at the spell to neutralise Seventh Plague. Tatsuya then coaxes her, and she agrees to help but advises she can’t help with bringing him down again. Tatsuya turns to Miyuki and tells her catching him is her role as the spell will leave him spent. Miyuki agrees to do so even if it would mean giving up all of herself to do so. Lina casts the spell and launches Tatsuya into the upper atmosphere. Free from the interference caused by Heavy Metal Burst, Tatsuya targets the falling satellite and casts Beta Trident, which vaporises Seventh Plague. The dust released causes an aurora which can be seen for miles. Miyuki then uses her magic to collect Tatsuya and safely bring him down to the ground. Later, in Tokyo, the Kitiyama jet arrives and delivers the rest of the Watatsumi and Kokoa is reunited with her sisters. Juumonji Katsuto reports on the events to the 10 Master Clans. On the 1st of April the Watatsumi series are collected to be taken to their new home and as they leave Kokoa turns to Tatsuya and thanks him.
