Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei Nankai Soujou-hen (魔法科高校の劣等生 南海騒擾編) is the manga adaption of the 'Southern Sea Riot Arc' from the 20th light novel. The adaptation is by Aonagi Nobu (蒼和 伸). It is serialised in Dengeki Daioh, beginning in February 2021 and ran for eighteen chapters, finishing in August 2022.

Australia, Darwin Air Force Base.
The base welcomes the special guest Willian McCloud, an Apostle from the UK. They head to a research facility where he meets with two soldiers, one a grown older man and the other has the appearance of a young girl. They discuss Japan’s current expansion and the threat it poses to the global power balance. McCloud informs the two they are to target the new artificial island made by Japan and sabotage it. 10th of March 2097. Tatsuya and Miyuki chance upon Masaki in Tokyo and Masaki says his farewells to Miyuki. Once he is gone, Tatsuya takes Miyuki’s hand and the couple walk to their destination, the magic association. At the association, they greet Maya in a private room and she has them take a seat. After some pleasantries Maya tells the pair about an upcoming memorial for the victims of the battle in Okinawa back in 2092. This brings back some unpleasant memories for the couple about the events of that day. Maya tells them they will be sent as a representative of the Ten Master Clans to the memorial. Maya then hands Tatsuya a sealed document containing further details. Upon reading then, Tatsuya learns of the planned sabotage of the artificial island. Tatsuya returns the documents, but Maya has him decompose them instead. Maya gives him permission to tell Miyuki the real mission, subtly making it clear failure is not an option. | ||

At First High, Miyuki is stopped by Shizuku in the corridor and she and Tatsuya are invited to join her and Honoka in Okinawa for spring break. Shizuku mentions her father was involved in the building of the new artificial island and wanted to invite them to the ceremony to celebrate its completion. Hearing the dates, Miyuki declines as she has family business to attend the memorial ceremony. The three agree to meet up if they all have free time. March 15th. The graduation ceremony for the seniors gets underway with Azusa giving the farewell speech, tears and smiles all around. Tatsuya and the other committee members clear up after the ceremony and when it’s done, Tatsuya heads to the Student Council Room where an elated Miyuki is waiting along with Azusa, Kirihara, Sayaka, Hattori. Isori and Kanon who are planning their graduation trip to Okinawa. Okinawa was picked as the destination partly due to the fact Isori’s family were involved with the construction of the artificial island. Just as Miyuki is about ask about warning them, Tatsuya tells her no, prioritising the secrecy of the mission. March 17th. Tatsuya meets with Sanada, Fujibayashi, Yanagi and Kazuma at their unit’s headquarters. There Kazuma briefs the other four on their mission to stop the artificial island from being sabotaged on the 28th and that foreign operatives are involved. Kazuma confirms that special forces will deploy on the 24th and that he will be personally present onsite. Kazuma also comments Tatsuya will be there as a representative of the Yotsuba and not a special duties officer. Tatsuya contemplates the enemy’s goal as he accepts his orders. | ||

March 23rd, Okinawa Airport.
Bradly Zhang, a large man who escaped the Great Asian Union, is making his way through the airport. Clearing customs Bradley makes it outside where he finds no one present until he is senses a hostile presence. Turning around Bradly is faced with Lu Ganghu who addresses Bradley as a traitor. A fierce fight ensures between the pair and Bradley is slowly backed into a metaphorical corner as Lu pressures him in close combat until a man wearing a hat and sunglasses interrupts the fight. Lu is ordered to retreat over the comm. The fight over, the man in the hat leads Bradley away to a waiting car. In a private meeting room in the airport, Kazuma, Sanada and Fujibayashi oversee the situation alongside Chen. The man in the hat is identified as James Jackson from Australia. As Kazuma orders an investigation into Jackson, Lu Ganghu arrives in the meeting room. Chen and Lu had been captured previously, but were released in a prisoner exchange and the they have been dispatched to deal with some renegades, their main target being Bradley. After the pair from the GAU leave, Yanagi enters the room, and they review the fight between Jackson and Lu. They conclude it proves the renegades are not in league with the GAU. Tatsuya is mentioned and Fujibayashi reminds Yanagi not to mention Tatsuya’s rank on this operation. Kazuma has been ordered by Saeki to undertake a joint operation with Chen’s unit to resolve things. Kazuma orders his unit to treat Chen’s unit as friendlies for the duration of the operation and the others salute their understanding. | ||

March 23rd.
Tatsuya, Miyuki and Minami fly to Okinawa and check into their hotel. The following day they attend the memorial for the victims of 2092, the event bring forward a flood of memories of the late Honami who had died in the battle. After the memorial the three head to a bar where thy meet with Higaki Joseph, who the Shiba couple met back in 2092. After some pleasantries, Joseph directs them to a private room upstairs. There they meet with Sanada, Kazuma and an unexpected Chen Xiangshan from the GAU. The group settle down and discuss the situation with the saboteurs. Tatsuya is told about the two soldiers from Australia and is show a picture of the pair. A middle ages man, James Jeffrey Johnson, and what appears to be a young girl, Jasmine Williams. Once the discussion is over, the Shiba couple and Minami are invited to dinner, but they decline, using fatigue from the memorial as an excuse. Fujibayashi Kyouko’s absence is also noted. | ||

The graduates from First High are out enjoying their graduation holiday in Okinawa. Their former classmate Sawaki Midori, asks if it was really okay to join the three couples. This embarrasses the two actual couples, Kirihara Takeaki and Mibu Sayaka along with Chiyoda Kanon and Isori Kei, but Hattori Gyoubushoujo Hanzou and Nakajou Azusa are not an actual couple and Azusa fiercely opposes the mistake, and Hattori makes it clear that is why it is fine for him to join them. The Shiba couple is mentioned and the seven discuss how they make a good couple as Tatsuya does not get drowned out by Miyuki’s beauty. The seven continue their trip when they notice a little girl on her own being tailed by some very suspicious men. Concerned for the little girl, Sayaka goes to speak to the little girl and the little girl tells her that she is waiting for her father. The suspicious men start closing so the graduates decide to protect the girl, causing an intense fight to break out and the men are incapacitated. | ||

Jasmine is being treated to lunch by the graduates Sayaka reassures her that they won’t be attacked in such a busy area. James Jeffery Johnson arrives, pretending to be Jasmine’s dad and acting in a very overexaggerated manner. Introducing himself as James Jackson in broken Japanese, he thanks the graduates for saving Jasmine. Hattori offers to go to the police and report the attack, but James makes an excuse and he and Jasmine leave. After they’ve gone, Sawaki brings up how the men before thought, commenting they uses a combat style from the GAU, and the graduates worry there will be a repeat of Yokohama. Back at their hotel, Jasmine is furious due to James’s poor acting nearly exposing them. Jasmine is actually an adult but looks like a child due to a side effect of being an augmented magician, which has stalled her growth. The conversation moves the attackers, and they agree that the GAU is likely working with Japan to thwart the planned sabotage. Realising Jasmine has been marked, and likely the hotel as well, they plan how to escape their pursuers and prepare themselves. Outside armoured men prepare to storm the building. Elsewhere, Tatsuya, Miyuki and Minami are enjoying the sights, but when Minami tries to call for a taxi the system is down. Wondering if it is the terrorists, Tatsuya investigates with his terminal and realises they need not worry as the issue will be resolved shortly. After Minami manages to order a taxi, Tatsuya has deduced from his knowledge of the militaries system that it is related to the mission and that the parties responsible for the local blackout have already vacated the area. Kazama receives a report from Fujibayashi that their unit that was going after the Australians has been taken out. | ||

Kazuma and Fujibayashi read the report on the failed attempt to apprehend the two Australian agents. Hearing the details of the spell used, Sanada concludes it must have been Ozone Circle, a famous Strategic Class Magic developed in the old EU and used by Willian McCloud and Carla Schmidt. Australia should have received the spell when the EU split as it was part of the British Commonwealth at the time. The conversation moves on to the two Australians themselves and Fujibayashi explains that Jasmine is likely far older than she appears, her age likely due to some experimental drug or procedure. She goes on to explain that the allied forces failed to capture her due to interference from some graduates from First High. The meeting concludes with Kazuma assigning Fujibayashi to track the Australians while Sanada hunts the main enemy unit. Elsewhere Jasmine and James meet with Daniel Liu. It is mentioned that the Yotsuba magicians Shiba Tatsuya and Shiba Miyuki were present at the ceremony and warns them to be wary of the pair. Jasmine is unconvinced due to their ages, but Daniel says not to underestimate them, citing Juumonji Katsuto’s exploits in Yokohama as an example of why they should be wary. The twenty fifth of March. The Shiba couple are enjoying an exquisite breakfast with Minami, though Minami has to be coaxed into dining with them rather than serving them. After the meal, Tatsuya checks Miyuki is feeling better, and his stare embarrasses her somewhat as they have a tender moment. As she is okay, Tatsuya asks if she wants to go out today, and they settle on a boat trip. | ||

The Shiba couple, along with Minami, arrive at the docks and board a yacht where they are met by Joe who has been assigned as their escort. After some pleasantries, they set sail and head to Ishigakijima. Once the yacht arrives, Joe guides the trio on a sight seeing tour of Ishigakijima until they arrive at a jewellery store. There, Tatsuya gives Miyuki her birthday present, an expensive pearl necklace, and tells she will have to make do with the necklace for now but he will prepare a ring in the near future. The trio and their guide return to their hotel later on, where Tatsuya is acting strangely and staring at a building across the way. Minami jumps into action to protect Miyuki, but Tatsuya tells them not to panic and decides to ignore it. Across the road, James Johnson was the one observing the Yotsuba trio. Tatsuya’s stare had been so intense, even a veteran like James was left physically shaking with fear. The contact, and minimal as it was, reminded James of the reputation the Yotsuba earned thirty years prior when they became known as ‘The Untouchables’. Thinking about recent events in which the Yotsuba were supposedly involved, including that they developed the magic used on the Korean peninsula that forced the GAU to yield, something he cannot believe as it would mean the countries internal power balance would be skewed beyond reason. James realises the Yotsuba aren’t the only party of concern, thinking of his actual enemy on this operation, Kazuma Harunobu, but nonetheless notes the Yotsuba cannot be underestimated. | ||

The Shiba couple enjoy an intimate meal together, though Tatsuya made sure there was no alcohol involved, before the pair head back to their room hand in hand. There they are greeted by Minami who prepares the bath for Miyuki first. While he waits, Tatsuya uses the psion marker he placed on James Jeffery Johnson to read his EIDOS data remotely, as well as getting his current location, all of which he sends to Kazama. Tatsuya then takes his shower, but upon returning to his room, he finds Miyuki waiting in her pyjamas. Tatsuya is a little uncomfortable and checks Miyuki hasn’t been drinking but his stare embarrasses her. Very aware of her lack of clothing, Tatsuya dries his hair off as Miyuki invites him to the bed to sleep together (literally, nothing more). Later, Tatsuya notices Miyuki as she is escorted out by Minami in the middle of the night. The following morning, the girls are very embarrassed as Tatsuya confirms their schedule to head to Kume Island and confirms they are allowed to carry their CADs on their persons but can only use them for emergencies. At the airport the Shiba couple and Minami are greeted by Honoka and Shizuku as well as Nakajou Azusa and the other graduates. Miyuki invites them all to join their sightseeing trip. | ||

The students from First High and the graduates all head off and spend the day together enjoying the sights via the boat Tatsuya arranged. When they use dinghies to land on a beach, Honoka strips to a bikini and tried to seduce Tatsuya with her body, having been incited into the plan by Subaru and Eimi back in Tokyo. Miyuki is less than impressed. Tatsuya, however, notices someone observing them. Back on the boat, Honoka is still in her bikini and tries to get Tatsuya’s attention, but he has detected a submarine. Tatsuya heads to the bridge, followed by Hattori and Sawaki. With the Captain, they decide to check if it is a JSDF ship by changing course, and when the submarine does as well it confirms it is hostile. The submarine attacks with foam torpedoes, but they are stopped by the students aboard. The submarine then sends boarders and Sawaki is quick to intercept the first. | ||

A furious fight is underway as the attackers try to board the yacht. However, the boarders are quickly subdued by the graduates. Once the fight is over, Tatsuya snaps a picture as evidence and then dumps the attackers into the sea. His ruthlessness as casual attitude unnerving the graduates. The submarine disengages. James is furious about the attack, but Daniel Liu explains though they had intended to avoid the Yotsuba, they wanted to kidnap Shizuku and the other students. As they discuss the plans going forward, they wonder how they were even detected in the first place and wonder if it was Yotsuba magic. The Shiba couple and Minami return to their hotel. There, Tatsuya reconfirms that the psion marker he placed on James is still functional and reflects on the fact that it is James’s side who are being closed in on. The following day, Tatsuya meets with Fujibayashi and the other officers from the battalion, along with Chen and Lu. They discuss the situation, with Chen and Lu being informed that there are Australians working with the renegades and that they have a submarine. The decision is made to board the submarine while it is docked in a transport disguised as a freighter. | ||

James disembarks from the disguised submarine dock in a diving suit shortly before Tatsuya and the others arrive above the disguised freighter. Upon arriving, the joint task force, accompanied by Tatsuya, board the ship and launch an overwhelming attack on the ship, with Tatsuya providing support while being careful to disguise his true abilities to hide his identity as Mahesvara. The battle is completely one sided, and the task force quickly overpower the defences and crew. | ||

As Chen directs things from the deck, Lu and Yanagi continue their search of the ship whilst Tatsuya and Kazuma stealthily neutralise the commanders on the bridge. Meanwhile, James arrives at the yacht where Jasmine is waiting. James is then informed that the submarine was taken. After getting changed, he heads to the ship’s bar to meet with Zhang and Jasmine. The three discuss what happened, noting that it was a joint force that took the submarine and dock. Though concerned that the details of tomorrow’s operation were leaked, Zhang is confident they can still manage. James, however, needs to discuss matters with his superiors. Fujibayashi intercepts the message to their superiors, and Sanada decrypts it, and the wishy-washy response vaguely confirming that they should still go ahead. Kazuma comments it is a way that superiors avoid culpability when an operation is expected to fail. The others are surprised that Australia would risk throwing magicians away like that, but Kazuma points out they wouldn’t have been sent at all if they weren’t considered disposable. Concluding that they likely having a defect of some sort, they realise they are looking for someone competent, but disposable. | ||

March Twenty-eighth.
It’s the day of the party and the Shiba couple meet up with Honoka and Shizuku for lunch before Tatsuya heads out to make the final preparations for the trap. When Miyuki returns, she finds Tatsuya taking a quick nap. She tried to steal a kiss but fails due to embarrassment. The guests begin arriving at the venue, with the graduates arriving early. As they are chatting with Shizuku, she notices Honoka looking around. Shizuku checks on Honoka, who has noticed Tatsuya’s absence. Shizuku comments he will arrive later with Miyuki. On their boat, Tatsuya heads out, leaving Miyuki with Minami. James and Jasmine, wearing disguises, are leaving a convenience store where they bump into Tatsuya. Trying to stay calm the pair leave after a brief exchange, with Tatsuya pretending not to know who they are. Tatsuya returns to the ship and confirms the psion marker he put on Jasmine is working. Miyuki then comes in wearing the necklace he bought her. | ||

The Shiba couple arrive at the party and their presence causes a commotion. They first greet the Kitayama family, before heading over to speak with their friends. Meanwhile, the terrorist forces are mobilising, ready to strike. Tatsuya takes Isori Kei aside and warns him of the potential attack on the party and that he personally might be targeted due to his ability to activate the islands shield. Tatsuya then has a bodyguard introduce himself and has him protect Isori. The three return to the party where Tatsuya bumps into Fujibayashi Kyouko. The pair banter as they subtly discuss the situation. Tatsuya informs Miyuki and the others that he is stepping out for a mission. Azusa notices how smoothly Miyuki calls him Tatsuya-sama now, much to Miyuki’s embarrassment. As Tatsuya leaves, several of the graduating boys notice something is off. | ||

Lu Ganghu intercepts the incoming terrorists one kilometer out and battle erupts between the terrorists and the allied forces of the GAU and JSDF, supported by Tatsuya and the three graduate boys. Whilst the battle rages, Lu faces off against the leader of the terrorists, Bradley Zhang in an intense duel. Meanwhile, back at the party, Kanon and Mibu head to the bathroom where they encounter Jasmine. | ||

Jasmine quickly takes Kanon hostage before Sayaka can react and demands she call Isori Kei. Kanon refuses to betray her lover but Kei hears the commotion and comes over regardless. Jasmine and James make their demand, demanding that Kei come with them. Before things escalate further, Azusa uses her Azusa Bow spell which causes everyone to stumble. Kei quickly gets Jasmine’s knife but before he or Sayaka can strike, James grabs Jasmine and flees. James and Jasmine flee to a storeroom. There, Jasmine decides to resort to the use of Ozone layer, which had been authorised as a last resort by her superiors, on the party venue itself. Jasmine tries to cast Ozone Layer, but the spell fails. Jasmine is baffled as she has never had an issue using it before. She tries to use it again, and it fails. Miyuki, Minami and Chen arrive. Miyuki explains that Jasmine’s Gate has been sealed by the Yotsuba technique Gatekeeper, so they cannot use magic anymore. Miyuki then freezes the pair alive. Later, Tatsuya returns to the party and is greeted by Miyuki, Shizuku and Honoka. Meanwhile, Sayaka is angry at the graduate boys for coming back drenched. Azusa quickly dried the trio. The trio are about to return to the party when they are told they need to check on Kanon first. Seeing the state Kanon is in, they immediately realise something happened. The other girls explain about it while leaving the couple alone. | ||

On a ship returning to the GAU, Chen and Lu celebrate their successful mission over a drink. They discuss the strength of the Japanese army and the threat that the Yotsuba Family represents. Tatsuya reports to Maya by videophone. Maya takes an interest in Gatekeeper and requests a more detailed report in April after they return. After the call, Tatsuya heads outside and stargazes with Miyuki. As they have some quality time watching the ocean, the discuss how it was a fun trip and decide that their next trip should not be coupled with a mission. As they are talking, Miyuki admits she still cannot decide which she prefers between ‘Onii-sama’ and ‘Tatsuya-sama’ and Tatsuya tells her she still has time to decide. March Twenty-Ninth. The graduates are heading home after their graduate trip, though Sayaka is still giving Takeaki grief over getting all messed up when they stepped out during the ball. Everyone enjoyed the trip but they boys were happiest about getting to go all out in a fight. The graduates then discuss the possibility of going on another trip in the summer. Elsewhere, the Shbia couple are with Honoka and Shizuku taking a trip on a glass boat and watching the fish. The conversation turns to the incoming freshmen and Mitsuya Shiina who is the new class’s representative and a daughter of the Mitsuya Family from the Ten Master Clans. Out in the West, the apostle William McCloud and Edward Clarke discuss the outcome of the mission and believing the Yotsuba will take an interest in Jasmine and take her, they plan to use the McCloud bloodline magic to spy on the Yotsuba and their magic by using her as a trojan. March Thirtieth. Maya meets with Aoba, the Yotsuba’s sponsor. They discuss Jasmine and Aoba warns Maya to never make contact with her. Maya accepts the warning and agrees to leave her with Saeki. | ||
