Ichijou Gouki (一条 剛毅) is the Head of the Ichijou Family, which is one of the Ten Master Clans.[1]
Appearance and Personality[]
Gouki can be described as being "manly". He has short hair and an overly tanned body, which he acquired from being under intense sunlight for long periods of time. Although, he does have an appearance that suits his dignity appropriately for his age. However, his body doesn't appear to show its real age; especially since his muscles are firm, albeit not voluminous. [2]
Despite his harsh features, he leaves a strong impression behind to those he meets. [2]
Background[]
He celebrated his 42nd birthday a few days before the Master Clans Conference in February of AD 2097. [3]
Gouki is friends with Maeda Chizuru, the current Principal of Third High School and the two of them are graduates from there, whereas she was a year ahead of him. [4]
He is the President of a Seabed Resource Mining Company that performs business in the Sea of Japan. [5] [3] When not working on his company, he will otherwise oversee the training of magicians of the Ichijou Clan and is rarely at home until dinner. [2]
He has been mentioned to be punctual when arriving at home to eat dinner with his family, that is if he isn't occupied with business. [5]
In 2093 when the Great Asian Union invaded Okinawa, the New Soviet Union also took military action on Sado, where Gouki negotiated with Colonel Sakai to allow for a volunteer force to help. Gouki along with his son Ichijou Masaki volunteered for the front lines, where they fought against the invaders using their Magic, 'Rupture'. [6] It was during this invasion that Gouki first meets Kichijouji Shinkurou whose parents were killed by the invaders and he makes arrangements for Kichijouji to work on Kanazawa Magic Science Institute so he can be independent. [5]
When the New Soviet Union was making an advance on Sado again in 2097, Gouki protected the magicians under his command from a surprise attack. The attack was launched by Igor Andreevich Bezobrazov, and he used a smaller scaled Tuman Bomba. The attack forced Gouki to use multiple barriers and it overloaded his Magic Calculation Area.[7]
The Yotsuba Family reached out to Gouki and offered to help him with his recovery. Tsukuba Yuuka is sent to help with the treatment, and while the process is unknown, to a certain level, she has the ability to cure the an overheated Magic Calculation Area.[8]

- Rupture (爆裂) - Dispersal Type Magic which is the specialty of Magicians of the "One" and other similar magic that interferes with the flesh and body. [3]

- When Jiedo Heigu attacks the Ten Master Clans Conference, Gouki is able to sense the manipulation magic that was being used and informs the rest of the clan heads that they are battling against corpses and they are numerous at the floors below them so the Ten Master Clan Heads decides to go to the roof of the building to escape. [3]
Barrier Magic[]
- Gouki is able to use multiple layers of Barrier Magic which allows him to survive the Tuman Bomba despite overloading his Magic Calculation Area afterwards. [7]
Trivia[]
- The kanji for Gouki's name means the following: 剛 means "strong" and 毅 means "strong intention."
