Double Seven III is the third episode of the third season of the Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei anime.
Summary[]
Tatsuya receives intel that Congressman Kanda of the Anti-Magician faction will be making a surprise visit to First High School with an entourage of reporters. The Congressman intends to expose even the slightest connection to the military with the school where he will make a big fuss in the media and claim that First High School has became a place for military education. To counter this, Tatsuya proposes that they conduct a Thermonuclear Gravity-Controlled Reactor or Stellar Furnace experiment to show that the First High students are trying to solve the energy problems and contribute for peace and betterment of society. Plot[]
November 26, 2095. At the Yotsuba Main House, Yotsuba Maya arrives at the room to meet with Tatsuya and Miyuki. After Hayama Tadanori serves the drinks, Maya informs them the findings of the Magic Association that the explosion from the Scorched Halloween is not a radiological weapon, the government has deployed Itsuwa Mio to Sasebo and New Soviet Union's Thirteen Apostles Igor Andreevich Bezobrazov has mobilized to evaluate the effectiveness of Strategic-Class Magic. Maya also informs them that there should be peace between Japan and Great Asian Union ever since the Okinawa Defense Naval Battle and lets Miyuki go while instructing Tatsuya to stay.
April 20, 2096. At the First High School Student Council Room, Tatsuya and Miyuki holds an emergency meeting with Nakajou Azusa, Isori Kei and Chiyoda Kanon tells them that Congressman Kanda will make a surprise visit at First High School which Azusa acknowledges that it is indeed an emergency while Isori asks Tatsuya what are their plans. Miyuki gives them a terminal with plans for the Stellar Furnace Reactor which shocks Kei that they are even trying to challenge one of the Three Great Puzzles of Weight Systematic Magic which is a different approach from Ichihara Suzune's presentation during the Thesis Competition. After seeing the benefits the Stellar Furnace, Azusa approves the plan and Isori volunteers to help as he also aspires to be a Magic Engineer.
After the classes have ended, Tatsuya informs them that the school has approved of the Stellar Furnace Reactor Experiment and Tsuzura Kazuo will supervise the experiment who also joins the meeting with the Student Council and asks about the role assignment. Tatsuya briefs him that Honoka will be on Gamma Ray Filter, Isori will be on Coulomb Force Control, Minami will be on Neutron Barrier, Izumi and Kasumi will be on Fourth Phase Transition and Miyuki will be on Gravity Control. After confirming that Minami is Tatsuya's "cousin", he approves the assignment of roles and the preparations for the experiment begins.
April 23, 2096. At the Shippou Main House at night, Shippou Takuma is urging his father Shippou Takumi to take action since the Ten Master Clans Selection Meeting is less than a year away and he does not want the Saegusa to "rob" them of their place at the Ten Master Clans and be their subordinates again. Takumi explains the position of the Saegusa among the 18 Assistant Houses but Takuma angrily retorts that the Saegusa stole the research results of the Third and Seventh Research Institutes to which Takumi gives up convincing Takuma then informs him that Congressman Kanda is visiting First High tomorrow. Takumi further presses on Takuma to promise that he will not cause trouble during the Congressman's visit, in which the latter agrees. After hearing his son's commitment, Takumi then tells him that the Saegusa will deal with the Congressman and the Shippou Family will not interfere. That surprises Takuma out of his chair but is forced to back down, in anger.
April 24, 2096. At the First High School, while Principal Momoyama Azuma and Vice Principal Yaosaka is at a meeting, Congressman Kanda, with his entourage of reporters, questions them about the rumors that the Magic High Schools of Japan are Brainwashing students to join the military. Momoyama dismisses the claim to be false and urges the Congressman that he observe one of the classes to prove it. The Congressman assures Momoyama that he will not inconvenience them. They are brought to the Stellar Furnace Reactor Experiment grounds by Yaosaka where Tsuzura and the students are busy preparing.
After an exchange of questions and answers between Tsuzura and the Congressman's group, the experiment begins. Following Tatsuya's direction, the participants performs their part where Miyuki performs the Gravity Control, causing the water in the sphere to levitate, Kasumi and Izumi using Fourth Phase Shift, causing the liquid transform into the fourth phase, Minami activating her Neutron Barrier that prevents the neutrons from rebounding, Honoka then activates Gamma Ray Filter that causes the sphere to glow in a yellow light. Miyuki then activates a second Gravity Control Magic that causes the mutual gravitational attraction in the liquid, Isori then exerts Coulomb force control that prevents nuclear fusion. An alert begins to sound, indicating that the vessel's endurance is about to reach its limit. Tatsuya concludes the experiment and directs the participants to cancel their magic, then Kent Smith, who is analyzing the contents in the sphere, reports various elements and reports that no radioactive substance has been detected. Tatsuya then passes the microphone to Azusa why announces that Stellar Furnace Experiment is a success as the students watching the experiment celebrate and cheer while Takuma is visibly displeased.
Congressman Kanda's group follows Tsuzura who left the site and questions him what has happened. The then reporters tried to distort the experiment to be linked to the explosion that occurred in the Scorched Halloween that causes Tsuzura to laugh and explains that they don't need a precise formula to case a large scale explosion and once the Stellar Furnace is implemented for practical use, it will be an abundant source of energy. Tsuzura then goads Kanda for commendation on the experiment and how the students are contributing to society in a peaceful way which he does and leaves. Yaosaka then questions Tsuzura who admits that he lost his temper because of the ill intents of the reporters and how he values the contributions the students are making for society.
At the Shiba Residence, Tatsuya is viewing a video sent by Lina as a surprise happy birthday greeting to Tatsuya but denies that she is feeling sad and does not want Tatsuya to get the wrong idea to the latter's amusement. Miyuki then enters the room in a gown holding a champagne and 2 wine glasses then they celebrate Tatsuya's birthday.
At the Yotsuba Main House, Maya and Hayama are watching the news about Tatsuya's Stellar Furnace Experiment and they discuss the success of Tatsuya's plan then Maya recalls their previous talk where she orders Tatsuya to quit school and be confined in the main house. Tatsuya refuses and reasons that only Miyuki can give him orders, resulting to a stare off between aunt and nephew. Maya activates her Meteor Stream, causing the room to go dark and lit by stars that showers down towards Tatsuya. Moments later, the starlit darkness shatters and Tatsuya remarks that Maya has held back to which Maya admits and agrees to let Tatsuya continue school as a reward for breaching her magic. Tatsuya thanks Maya and departs, ending the recollection and how it was worth it to indulge Tatsuya.
