Cygnus Maidens Volume 5 (新・魔法科高校の劣等生 キグナスの乙女たち 5) is the fifth light novel of the second spin-off series for the Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei series. This spin-off continues to follow the story of Juumonji Alisa, the illegitimate daughter of the Juumonji family as she continues her high school life at First High. This volume was released on February 10, 2023.
Synopsis[]
Tookami Marika attends a training camp for the All Japan Martial Magic Arts Tournament participants. That woman is the helper!?
Alisa and the others are immersed in a sense of fulfillment after the heated Nine Schools Competition ends. But for Marika, summer is not over yet. This is because the All Japan Martial Magic Arts Tournament is just around the corner. Burning with revenge against her destined rival, Ichijou Akane, Marika participates in the Magic Arts Club's training camp to further improve her level.
She trains with Arisa and others who accompany her, and plays in the water in the riverbed. There, Chiba Erika and Saijou Leonhard, who were friends of Shiba Tatsuya, a graduate of the legendary First High School, appeared as her helpers.[1]

Marika, Alisa, Hiyori, Koharu and Mei are at the party for the closure of the Nine Schools Competition where Alisa and Hiyori won their respective events. Although most of them consider the Nine Schools Competition to be a good memory and it feels long yet fast, Marika is participating in the "Martial Magic Arts National Tournament", an open tournament that has no entry requirement except for the participant to be a resident of Japan and 15 years of age. After Marika's lost against Ichijou Akane, Marika sore that the upcoming tournament will be her stage for rematch and revenge. Chika, President of the Magic Arts Club happens to walk by and Marika asks her if they are going to have a training camp for the tournament but because of the summer season, there are lots of competition for boarding houses with martial arts halls and gyms. Koharu interposed and see if her father's company in Okutama is available to which Chika and Marika is interested in renting.
