Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei Wiki

The main storyline of Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei has been released across a number of different media and, given the series success, it has also inspired a number of official short and side stories which further expand the rich lore of the future world in which the series is set, as well as offering more insight into both the protagonists and a number of other popular characters.

The Limited Edition Anime Boxed Sets[]

The initial release of the anime was in the form of limited edition boxed sets, ten for season 1 and five for season 2. These boxed sets included guidebooks, CDs with character songs as well as short story booklets. Some of these short and side stories were later added to the Appendix light novel collections. These short stories are:

The Irregular at Magic High School Movie[]

Gekijouban Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei: Hoshi o Yobu Shoujo (The Irregular at Magic Highschool The Movie: The Girl who Summons the Stars) is a side story set during spring break of 2096. It has since been released as both a manga and light novel and during its screening three additional short stories were released as part of a promotion.

Kana Ishida Art Works[]

The Kana Ishida Art Works book are completions of the official Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei artwork by the main illustrator of the light novel series, Kana Ishida. Included in this works are the short stories Battle Royale and "Bond of Tears and Blood".

Magazine[]

A number of short stories have been released in Dengeki Bunko Magazine. Additionally, back in 2012, a series of promotional cards were released with the magazine. These cards contained promotional short stores with a theme of 'breaking through limits' and two of which were for Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei.

Additionally, in 2012, Dengeki Bunko ran a promotion in which collectable cards were included with the magazine. These cards contained short stores from several series, all themed around breaking through limits. Two of the cards contained Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei short stories.

Card five contained the short story Breaking Through the Limits of Magicians whilst card nine contained Breaking Through the Limits of a Joke.

Promotional Magazines[]

Several magazines have been released to celebrate various milestones and events within Japan. These magazines often contain short stories from a number of series from the publisher sponsoring or celebrating the event.

One such magazine is the Sakura Collection, which was a commemorative book released as part of KADOKAWA Light Novel EXPO2020 (KADOKAWAライトノベルEXPO2020 公式記念本). In it was a short promotional short story for the Cygnus Maidens spin-off, titled Walking Amongst the Sakura with You.

Reminiscence Audio Drama[]

Included with the release of the audio drama of light novel 8 was a bonus short story set between volumes 8 and 9 titled Halloween Party in November.

Dengeki Bunko Super Appreciation Fair[]

As part of the Dengeki Bunko Super Appreciation Fair (超感謝フェア), promotional goods are released for a number of series which are published in Dengeki Bunko, including some for Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei.

In 2015, some promotional stickers were released along with the short story, Dress-Up Party (試着会). This short story covers a fun exchange between Lina and the Shiba siblings during the Visitor's Arc.

In 2016, a promotional leaflet was released which contained the promotional short story Something You Should Prepare for a Summer's Date (夏のデートに備えるべきこと). This short story is set during the Light Novel Thirteen and showcases some girl talk as the girls get ready for the Nine Schools Competition.

In 2017, a promotional leaflet was released which contained the promotional short story Mistress (ミストレス). This takes place in the epilogue of Light Novel Eleven and shows some of Minami's thoughts on her new assignment.

In 2020, a promotional short story called The Beautiful Onee-sama and That Detestable Guy (麗しのお姉様と憎たらしいアイツ) on the back of a card. This short story details a brief encounter at a festival between several characters and was available in bookstores around Japan during the event.

In 2021, two promotional leaflets were released, containing the promotional short stories Twins and Crossover SS: Future Paths (クロスオーバーSS 進路). The first, Twins, is about the relationship between the two sets of famous twins at the National Magic University. The second, Crossover SS: Future Paths, is about two of First High's alumni discussing the future that awaits them.

Vegetable Day[]

A promotional short story was released in celebration of Dengeki Bunko’s 25th Anniversary, in conjunction with New Days. The event was organised by Kadokawa, called Vegetable Day, and held in Akihabara on Sunday the 7th of October 2018.

During the event, several limited-edition promotional wallets were available for a number of series, including one for Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei. These plastic wallet also included a short story, with the Mahouka one detailing a short exchange between the Shiba siblings called Paprika Soup.

Games[]

As part of the release of Dengeki Bunko: Fighting Climax Ignition a promotional short story called Non-Biological Evolution was released in 2015 with a limited edition plastic wallet featuring Miyuki. The story covers a brief conversation between Miyuki and Tatsuya over a news article.

Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei SS[]

A short story titled Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei SS was released in May of 2016. It contains the four short stories that occur during the Steeplechase Arc which where previously released in Dengeki Bunko Magazine as well as a new fifth story, Temptation of A Rose, which follows Chiba Erika and Saijou Leonhard who are attending the 2096 Nine Schools Competition to support their friends as part of the audience.

Web Novel[]

Two web novel spin-off series and two short stories have been release so far for Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei.

The first was the short story, The Boys and Girls of Magic High - Beauty and the Beast (外伝・魔法科高校の少年少女 美少女と野獣), which followed Saijou Leonhard and is encounter with the virtual idol Usami Yuuki. This short story was later rereleased as part of the second season of the anime in the limited editon box sets detailed in the section above. Unlike the other short stores which are relased on Sato Tsutomu's personal website, Beauty and the Beast was released on Let's Become a Novellest 「小説家になろう」.

The first spin-off is a side story titled The Plan to Assassinate Tatsuya Shiba was first released as a web novel and later rereleased as both a light novel series and in manga form. This spin-off series follows the professional assassin Hashibami Yuki who is employed by the Yotsuba. This spin-off also includes the short story, Disappearance of a Fool, which acted as an initial teaser for the spin-off and was later incoporated into volume two of the light novel release.

The second is a prequel for the side story arc titled Cygnus Maidens. The protagonist of this series is Juumonji Alisa, the half-sister of Juumonji Katsuto who was born though an affair their father had with a Russian defector before his remarriage to his second wife. This series is set at First High, two years after Shiba Tatsuya has graduated and follows Alisa and her friend Tookami Marika's life at magic high.

Only the prequel, which is included in the first light novel, was released as a web novel for this spin-off series.
