The Juumonji (十文字) Family is one of the Ten Master Clans, bearing the number Ten (十) in their name. The current Head of the Juumonji Family is Juumonji Katsuto. The previous Head of the Juumonji Family was Juumonji Kazuki. He stepped down during the Selection Meeting of AD 2097.

The Juumonji Families ability to wield multiple types of Area of Effect defensive magic has earned them the title "Stonewall". [1]

Background[]

The Juumonji Family is founded by Juumonji Gai who became the head of the family for two generations and is succeeded by his "son" Juumonji Kazuki after his death. They are part of Ten Master Clans, and are from the Tenth Institute along with the Tooyama and Toogami Family and together they are known as the "Magicians of the Ten", where the research focus was, "Wide-Area Magic that Generates Virtual Structures in Space as a Defensive Countermeasure to Heavy firepower" designed to protect the Imperial Capital no during World War Three no matter what the cost. [2]

Notable from the Juumonji Family is "Phalanx", a multi-layered defensive magic and is considered to be practically another name for the Juumonji Family. [1]

The Juumonji Family is said to be not adept at gathering intelligence according to Katsuto. However, Saegusa Kouichi has complimented Katsuto's investigation on Anti-Magician media inciters to be very thorough. [3]

Business Ventures[]

Kazuki, the former Head of the Juumonji Family is the owner of a Civil Engineering & Construction Company that contracts work with the Defense Forces. [4]

Main House[]

Juumjonji Main House in the manga

The Juumonji Family resides in Kantō, Tokyo. [4] The Juumonji Main House is a little bigger compared to a 21st century mansions but is incomparable to the Kitayama Main House. It is also bigger than the Shiba Residence which is about thirty kilometers apart in a straight line with a yard large enough that is normally not seen in Tokyo. [5]

The Juumonji Main House was intentionally built next to the Tenth Institute for the purpose of managing its facilities but not its maintenance and it is still considered a property of the government. Since the magic produced in the Tenth Institute is highly valued by the government and considered one of the trump cards in national defense, they chose to preserve the research data in the Institute although the facility is officially considered close with the exception of the training facilities which is still in use to this day. As such, the Juumonji are given the roles as guardian of important data in the Institute and elimination of spies which in turn, they were given the house to also fulfill this vigil.[6]

After Alisa is brought in by the Juumonji Family, a one storey, one room house that is self sufficient and is furnished with a cutting-edge kitchen and bathroom is built for Alisa to stay in which is in a sense similar to Chiba Erika's arrangement with her family. The room's interior follows the same design as the apartment where Tookami Marika lives in since both are built by the same company and even Kazumi from the main house comes to use the bathroom since it is more convenient.[7]

Area of Influence[]

Juumonji and Saegusa Area of Influence in the Manga

The Juumonji and Saegusa Family's influence encompasses specifically the Kantō region and all of Izu. During the Master Clans Conference held every four years, the Heads of both families give a report on the status of the regions they monitor. Although they share the same area with the Saegusa, the Juumonji is more focused on combat and defense of the region because of their Barrier Magic. [4]

The Juumonji Family's power surrounds the capital and can act regardless of jurisdiction. The Juumonji family is one of the three most influential families in the Ten Master Clans, besides the Yotsuba. [8]

It was mentioned that ordinarily the police would not have even been considered to be involved in incidents that involve the heir of the Juumonji Family. [9]

Members[]

Published Data on the Juumonji Family shows that the Family's other members are a second son —— a middle school sophomore, a third son —— a middle school freshmen, and a daughter —— an Elementary School Fifth Year. [5] As of 2099, the children have graduated their current schools and entered the Magic High School, with the exception of the youngest daughter, who is presently still in middle school. [10]

  • Grandparents Generation
  • Parents Generation:
    • Father - Juumonji Kazuki (Previous Clan Head)
    • Mother - Juumonji Keiko (Second Wife)
    • Unnamed First Wife (Deceased, Katsuto's Mother)
    • Unnamed Brother (Deceased, Yuuto's Father)
    • Unnamed Sister-In-Law (Deceased, Yuuto's Mother)

Magic Abilities[]

The Juumonji specializes in barrier magic and their ability to wield multiple types of area of effect defensive magic earned them the title "Stone Wall".[11]

Spatial Awareness[]

Since the Juumonji Family's Barrier Magic is a shield that can stop every attack, they must be able to sense and respond to attacks launched at any time and at any place. So they developed the technique Spatial Awareness that expands their perception radar.[12]

Over Clocking[]

Overclocking is a technique that raises the activity of the magic calculation area in order to surpass the user's potential and temporarily increase their magic power. This is a technique for ensuring victory at the price of having your life as a magician shortened, the “Capitals Final Defense”. This is how the prior head of the Juumonji Family lost his ability to use magic, through repeated use of overclocking. Members of the Juumonji Family are specifically the only known individuals to lose their ability to use magic from a disease. [4]

Phalanx[]

Phalanx(鐵壁) is a Move-Type Defensive Magic that isn't simply a sustained magic barrier, but a barrier that continuously refreshes itself. This is similar to a dense formation of heavy infantry that marches as one to increase the group's defensive power and then translates that power into an offense.
Phalanx is the most well known technique of the Juumonji family.
