Breaking Through the Limits of a Joke (戯れの限界突破) is a promotional short story which released in 2012 when Dengeki Bunko ran a promotion in which collectable cards were included with the magazine. These cards contained short stories from several series, all themed around breaking through limits. Two of the cards contained Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei short stories, with card nine containing the short story called Breaking Through the Limits of a Joke.
Breaking Through the Limits of a Joke contains a short exchange between Tatsuya and Miyuki which was later incorporated into the short story Halloween Party in November, released as part of the Reminiscence Chapter Audio Drama.

A pointed hat with a wide brim and a black cloak. Everything under the cloak is also black. It appears this is what my little sister considers a ‘witch’ to be. “Onii-sama, well……, trick or treat!” When I heard that my little sister, the vice-president, had proposed that the student council host a Halloween party two weeks after the fact, I had wondered why she had done so, and it would seem it was perhaps that she could do this. The commotion from within the auditorium cannot be heard. We are the only ones here now. Within my gaze, Miyuki is bashfully awaiting my response as a wave of mischievous feelings rise up within me. “Trick.” “……Erm, Onii-sama?” “Trick.” My little sister’s eyes restlessly flitter left and right. Well, what kind of mischief will she show me? “Huh, well then……” My little sister took off her hat, and then took two steps forward. (Oi oi) My little sister wrapped her arms around my neck, and standing on tiptoe, brought her face close…… and bit my nose. “Th, any more than this is impossible!” Infront of me, Miyuki is showing me her back, her ears bright red, whilst I’m also utterly bewildered. This is plenty, though I think it may have crossed beyond the limits of an older brother and younger sister...... |
