Side note: I am not saying that all those incidents were blown out of proportion. Nor am I saying that there aren't incidents with corrupt law enforcement and or politicians. Just that media can be biased to particular agenda for viewing rights and political agendas.

Not true. If they win the fight. They can spread the word that magicians can be taken down using Cast Jamming.  If they lose, which is most likely the outcome, if they have injuries or death by means of magic then they can use the media's publicity to go from aggressors to victims.
