Ancient City Insurrection II is the tenth episode of the third season of the Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei anime and the second episode for the Ancient City Insurrection Arc of the Anime.
Summary[]
To secure Kudou Retsu's cooperation in capturing Zhou Gongjin, Tatsuya, Miyuki and Minami visit Nara, the home region of the Kudou family. Kudou Retsu readily accepts Tatsuya's offer and introduces him to his grandson, Kudou Minoru. Minoru is one year younger than Tatsuya and although physically weak, he is said to possess powerful Magic Power. Over dinner, Minoru hears that Tatsuya and his friends are searching for a Traditionalists magician and offers to help. The next day, Tatsuya and his friends are touring the Traditionalist base in Nara with Minoru as their guide but they are attacked by the Traditionalists in Nara Park.[2]
Plot[]
October 6, 2096. At the Kudou Main House, Tatsuya, Minami and Miyuki are having their meeting with Retsu and Fujibayashi Kyouko at the reception room. Retsu who hasn't spoken to Tatsuya since Retsu assisted him in the incident with the Golden Electron Silkworms where Tatsuya thanks him. They then talk about Tatsuya's mission to capture Zhou Gongjin and his request of cooperation with the Kudou Clan. Since its a rule in the Ten Master Clans that collaboration of families are forbidden unless it is approved in the conference or in case of an emergency, Retsu as an individual agrees to cooperate with Tatsuya also as an individual. After Tatsuya thanks Retsu for the agreeing to help, Kyouko invites them for dinner.
At the dining room, Minoru arrives and introduces himself to Tatsuya's group and Kyouko who are already seated but Minami is in a daze upon seeing Minoru. Tatsuya and Miyuki stands up and formally introduce themselves and after agreeing to call each other with their first name, Minami who is still flustered introduces herself.
During dinner, Kyouko calls on Minoru who is nervous as they dine while Miyuki also follows suit to call on Minami who still flustered. After a brief talk of their background and relations, Minoru is expecting that Tatsuya, Miyuki and Minami will stay overnight but they have their hotel booking. Minoru sounds disappointed on hearing this but Kyouko tells him to wait until they are closer to them then suggests to take them on a tour that Minoru agrees while they are also looking for the Traditionalists Base that is quite numerous in Kyoto to which Tatsuya takes up Minoru's offer for the tour tomorrow.
October 7, 2096. Tatsuya, Miyuki and Minoru are outside their hotel where a Minoru arrives in a limousine and invites them in. As they are heading to their destination, Miyuki notices that Minoru is wearing a bracelet type CAD on both arms where its normal practice wear only 1 on their non-dominant hand. Minoru explains he needs 2 CAD's to be able to store over 99 Magic Sequences and is actually wearing a Thought-controlled CAD developed by Taurus Silver that impresses Tatsuya.
With Minoru in charge of the tour, they first head to Katsuragi Kodo where the group rents 2 electric scooter that Tatsuya and Miyuki rides one and Minoru and Minami rides the other. Tatsuya's group continue their tour on various shrines and tourists spot.
At Nara Park, Tatsuya detects a Mental Interfrence Type Barrier and the group prepares for battle. At Tatsuya's call, Minami deploys her Barrier Magic that blocks the incoming Flechette Bullet attacks then Tatsuya intercepts the attackers and neutralizes them with his Decomposition. Miyuki senses an activation sequence of Lightning magic above and below them and deploys her Zone Interference that nullifies the two-pronged attack but allows them to still attack from the sides. This causes Minoru to praise the barrier to be like the Holy Grail and then volunteers to handle the rest as he walks away from Miyuki's Zone Interference to draw the next magic attack. Due to the Traditionalists' hatred for the Kudou Family that Minoru is part of, they focus their magic on him but it simply passed through him and Miyuki realizes that Minoru is using Parade and his precision is better than Lina's. Minoru then uses Spark at a wide range that causes the Traditionalists that are concealed on the trees to be struck by the electric shock and falls down one by one as Minoru fire Spark at them. The rest of the Traditionalists retaliate but their magic simply passes through Minoru who continues firing Spark until a Traditionalist rushes Minoru with a talisman at hand but Minoru defeats him with Spark and the battle ends.
Tatsuya returns after defeating his share of enemies and they conclude that the Traditionalists must have realized that they are heading to their base and have already abandoned it so they decide to leave and call it a day.
At the station, Minoru sees Tatsuya, Miyuki and Minami off and since Zhou Gongjin has not yet been found, they agreed that they will meet again in the future.
October 8, 2096. At the Saegusa Main House, Saegusa Kouichi confirms that Nakura Saburou knows Tatsuya and is a good friend of Mayumi. Kouichi then informs Nakura that Tatsuya met with Retsu where Kouichi expresses concern that if Zhou Gongjin is captured by the Yotsuba, his collaboration with the Saegusa Family would be a problem so he orders Nakura to assassinate Zhou Gongjin.
October 9, 2096. At the Cabinets Waiting Station, Yoshida Mikihiko continues to guard Shibata Mizuki who tells Mikihiko he can leave but Mikihiki insists on continuing to guard her. As Mizuki enters the cabinet, Mikihiko senses a Shikigami and uses an Ancient Magic to return the Shikigami to its caster.
October 10, 2096. At First High School, Tatsuya enters the Public Morals Committee Room where Mikihiko is waiting for him. Mikihiko tells him that Mizuki is targetted by a Shikigami and questions Tatsuya why she is being targeted since she is not part of the Thesis Competition unlike Isori Kei and Nakajou Azusa. Mikihiko questions Tatsuya who is targeting Mizuki and believes that the Shikigami activation sequence he showed the other day could be related. Tatsuya remains silent but Mikihiko calms down a bit since he feels indebted to Tatsuya for his help that allowed him to use his magic confidently once again but needs to know so he can protect Mizuki. Tatsuya finally tells him that the Magicians he is pursuing is involved with the Yokohama Disturbance last year and is being sheltered by the Traditionalists and that is all that he can tell him. Mikihiko thanks Tatsuya for telling him and after confirming Tatsuya is referring to the Traditionalists based in Kyoto, the venue for the Thesis Competition, Mikihiko assigns Tatsuya to be part of the security detail so he can move freely and Mikihiko will use Talismans to be a decoy. Tatsuya suggests to ask Chiba Erika and Saijou Leonhard to help him and since Mikihiko cannot bring Mizuki to Kyoto, Tatsuya volunteers to find a bodyguard for her.
October 11, 2096. At the Katsuragawa River near Nakanoshima Park in Kyoto, Nakura is waiting by the riverbank until Zhou Gongjin arrives and Nakura tells him that the Yotsuba and Kudou clans are working together to capture him that causes Zhou Gongjin to burst in laughter on how he has become prominent to be targeted by 2 of the world's powerful clans. With the Traditionalists' hideout for Zhou Gongjin could be found in a matter of time, Zhou Gongjin questions if the Saegusa is offering a new hideout but get readies for battle. Nakura tells him he will take him to a place where the Yotsuba can never get him: "In Hell" and the battle begins.
Zhou Gongjin uses his talisman to summon a Shadow Beast to attack but Nakura activates his CAD and uses Water Needle that launches water projectiles from the ground and killing the Shadow Beast as it approaches. Zhou Gongjin laments of meeting by the river was a mistake as he attacks with 3 more Shadow Beast that Nakura once again defeats with his Water Needle as he mentions that Zhou Gongjin is using shadows as a medium to create the beasts then launches another barrage of Water Needles at Zhou Gongjin who wraps himself in a white cloth that served as a barrier from the needles. Zhou Gongjin then throws a talisman that creates another Shadow Beast while Nakura launches another Barrage of Water Needle to Zhou Gongjin then defeats the Shadow Beast with Water Needle. The Talisman falls to the water and summons another Shadow Beast that Nakura narrowly dodges by jumping back with Leap to the other side of the river bank and sees the white cloth fall to the ground but Zhou Gongjin has disappeared. Nakura tried to look for him but a black horn pierces his abdomen from the back then the horn melts like tar, causing Nakura to collapse face up as Zhou Gongjin approaches him from behind, holding the right side of his torso.
Realizing how Zhou Gongjin used Ghost Walker to move behind him just as he avoided the Shadow Beast by jumping at the other side of the riverbank and Zhou Gongjin attacked him from behind, Nakura confirmed what has happened as Zhou Gongjin praises him for wounding his side and his powers are superior to Kuroba Mitsugu. Nakura laughs off the praise as Zhou Gongjin kneels down after approaching Nakura's side and asks if he has any last requests since they shared sake together. Nakura obliges and tells him to die with him in his final shout and activates Water Needle but this time uses his blood as the medium for the needles and it hits Zhou Gongjin but resulting to the death of Nakura as the Blood Needles causes his chest to burst. Zhou Gongjin gets up as the blood needles revert back to being blood and remarks he cannot grant that last request nor this level of magic can kill him. Zhou Gongjin then brings out another talisman to heal his wounds after a short chant then uses a black cloth that covers his whole body and he disappears into the shadow along with the black cloth.
