Aidoneus is a Mental Interference Magic derived from Ghost Walker.

Background[]

Ghost Walker is an Ancient Magic which gives difficulty to track its user even for Shiba Tatsuya with Elemental Sight especially when used by Kudou Minoru when combined with Parade making it near impossible to pursue him.[1] Minoru eventually provides the know-how of Ghost Walker and its research is started by the Yotsuba's Technical Department in the Yotsuba Village headed by Tsukuba Yuuka since the Tsukuba Family specializes in Mental-Interference Type Magic.

With the research still ongoing, Yuuka concludes that Ghost Walker cannot be reproduced with Modern Magic but it is possible to develop a magic with similar effects. Tatsuya offers to continue working on developing this new spell which Yuuka agrees and gives Tatsuya the draft of its Magic Sequence since her research is focused on countering Ghost Walker and is planning to suspend development of the new magic anyway for the next couple of months and since acquiring the Magic Sequence, Tatsuya focused on developing the new magic at the Miyaki Island Research Facility for a full day without sleeping nor eating when he is struck by inspiration. [2] With the new spell completed, Tatsuya and Yuuka agreed to name it "Aidoneus" (the unseen one). [3]

Secrecy[]

"Stop thinking about unnecessary things."

—Haruka to herself while trying to ignore Aidoneus

The existence of Aidoneus is known by Tatsuya and Yuuka who developed the spell, Miyuki and Lina who was told about the spell.[2] Ono Haruka has seen the effect of Aidoneus herself and realizes that this is an effect of some kind of magic but she is also knows that Tatsuya will not answer if she asks so she tries to ignore the spell despite her curiosity. [4]

After the spell is completed, Tatsuya asks Yuuka to prioritize supplying the spell to the Kuroba Family but its still in testing by Kuroba Mitsugu for over a month which Kuroba Fumiya believes that Mitsugu does not want to be dependent on Tatsuya's help. [5]

Details[]

Aidoneus is a recognition-inhibiting magic derived to have the same effect as Ghost Walker that uses the gaze directed towards the user to interfere with their minds. Those who view the Aidoneus user is induced by a sort of Prosopagnosia or "face blindness" which is a neurological disorder which a person is unable to recognize the faces of other people and it affects even viewers of a live surveillance camera effectively making the user to move about freely without attracting attention. This makes the user "unremarkable" and since they are neither invisible nor it removes their presence, the user is still recognizable by security guards who are on the lookout for suspicious people. [3]

Unlike Parade, Aidoneus does not make a disguise to conceal their face and its user can make themselves recognizable at will so even Miyuki's beauty can be seen as an ordinary and an unimpressive "face in the crowd" but once Aidoneus is cancelled, it could give its viewer a shock for seeing such a beauty they did not recognize before. [4]

Aidoneus also causes the perception of anyone who sees the user to wane without them feeling it is being twisted. Even if that person knows who the Aidoneus user is, they are unable to recognize the user even if they bumped into each other.[5]

Counters[]

While Aidoneus works on surveillance cameras, it does not carry over on video recordings nor photographs since the magic does not affect the viewer unless they are viewing the user in real time.

Like Parade and Ghost Walker, Aidoneus also requires the user to continuously cast the spell to maintain its effect but this is solved by storing its magic sequence to a Magistore that can continuously activate the magic without the user needing to be aware of it.[3]

Trivia[]

  • Aidoneus is one of the names of Hades, the God of the Underworld in Greek Mythology in its lengthened form.
